A local resident recently spotted a Harris's Sparrow in his yard just outside of New Glarus. The Harris's Sparrow is an uncommon visitor to Wisconsin and is likely just passing through on his way to north-central Canada, where their breeding grounds are located.

According to the Cornell Lab, the Harris's Sparrow is North America's largest sparrow, ranging from 6.7" to 7.9", and is the only songbird that breeds in Canada and nowhere else in the world.
