Saving Lives During an Opioid Epidemic

June 25, 2020

Opioids are a class of drugs that include the illegal drug heroin, as well as pain relievers available legally by prescription such as oxycodone (OxyContin), hydrocodone (Vicodin), codeine, morphine and many others.

Upon completion of the NARCAN training, participants will be given free NARCAN nasal spray and a resource packet to include brochures and crisis/support contact information.

Who can benefit from the training? Anyone in the public. This includes, but is not limited to, family members, friends, professionals and individuals who are at risk and/or in the presence of someone at risk for an opioid overdose.

NARCAN training will teach participants life saving strategies to prevent an overdose, how to recognize an overdose, and administration of NARCAN. NARCAN training can be done in as little as 10 minutes for individuals or a group.

To register, email or call Marsha Johnson at, (608) 558-6115, or Carlos Rivera at, (608) 426-0262. Emails should include your name, email address, contact number and address. Participants will be contacted by a trainer to set up a date and time for training. Participants will be sent a link to log in for their online training, based on the date and at the time that they chose.

Once training is completed, a participant’s NARCAN will be available for pick up at the front desk of the Green County Human Services Department. Please notify the trainer if other arrangements need to be made to receive your NARCAN.

For any questions regarding addiction, NARCAN, or the training, please contact Recovery Coach/Trainer Marsha Johnson at, (608) 558-6115, or Carlos Rivera at, (608) 426-0262.

This training is presented courtesy of Green County Public Health, Green County Human Services and State Certified Trainers.
