New Glarus School District Moving to All-Virtual Instruction for Two Weeks

October 22, 2020

The New Glarus School District moved to all-virtual instruction for two weeks due to COVID-19. The district closely watches both internal and external metrics in order to make these decisions. The external metrics have been concerning for weeks, with the county being in “Red” on the Harvard Global Health Institute pandemic map and “Very High” for activity level according to the State Department of Health. This weekend, the internal metrics of positive cases and quarantines escalated significantly, and were connected to every building in the district. Also, the cases and quarantines were coming from multiple sources, which indicates significant community spread.

The School District has put in place many significant safety measures during the pandemic, which have worked well so far. At this point, there has been no COVID spread within the school buildings, but there has been within families and in the community, which is causing numerous positive cases and quarantines among our students.

During the two weeks of all-virtual instruction, meals will be delivered to all families that signed up for meal delivery if we moved to all-virtual instruction. The New Glarus School District, in partnership with the Green County Health Department, is also still planning to hold the student flu shot clinic at the school as a walk-up/drive-through clinic. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
