New Glarus Lions Club Donates Portion of Golf Outing Proceeds to Green Cares Food Pantry
October 29, 2020
The annual charity golf outing was held on Sunday, October 4th, at Edelweiss Chalet Country Club.
Due to COVID, the date was later than usual but the sun was out. The set-up and format were scaled back in order to ensure proper COVID precautions were taken, but golfers were understanding.
The outing was fortunate to have 22 teams participate and support the Lions Club.
In addition to contributions to the Lions Club through registration and mulligans, many business and individual donations allowed for each of the 88 golfers to receive a door prize that helps the golfers to go shop and support local businesses, who are key partners with the Lions in supporting the communities. The unique approach this year was the Lions Club's effort to give back.
A 50/50 raffle, which was also open to pre-sale to community members, brought in over $3,000 to the Lions Club. The remaining 50% will, in large part, be supporting Green Cares Food Pantry, the charity that was selected by two of the raffle ticket purchasers. Nutrition is one of the core programs that all Lions Clubs support, so the New Glarus Lions are thrilled to be able to present a check to the food pantry, which is a critical resource in our county and particularly over the past nine months of COVID, in the amount of $2,224.98.
The annual charity golf outing, while hopefully providing fun and camaraderie for area golfers, helps the New Glarus Lions Club raise critical funds in order to meet the club's mission of vision testing, eyeglasses, corneal transplant, scholarships, and support to the schools and other community needs, as well as for newer programs in diabetes awareness, childhood cancer, and the environment, to name a few.
The New Glarus Lions has dedicated members who volunteer countless hours and efforts, and greatly appreciates the collaboration with local businesses and citizens. We're in this together!
