Area Fire Departments Respond to Weekend Fires
November 12, 2020
On Saturday, November 7, 2020, the Belleville Fire Department was called to an address on Exeter Crossing Road. An investigation determined that the fire was started by a truck idling in tall grass and ignited the grass, which quickly spread into several rows of round bales. The fire damaged or destroyed approximately 100 large round bales of hay and corn fodder. There were no injuries. New Glarus, Monticello and Brooklyn Fire Departments as well as Belleville EMS assisted at the scene.
According to the Belleville Fire Department's Facebook page, at about 9:20 p.m., the Belleville Fire Department was dispatched into the Town of Montrose for a possible structure fire. Fire fighters arrived to find a large pile of trash on fire that was unattended. Investigation found the subject was, among other things, burning computers and electronics. This case has been referred to the Wisconsin DNR for further investigation and potential referral of criminal charges.
