A Note of Thanks to the Community

February 11, 2021

On February 3, 2021, an Open House and Ribbon Cutting was held at the newly renovated New Glarus Police Department. New Glarus Police Chief Burt Boldebuck wrote a note of thanks to the community for their support.

As your Chief of Police, I would like to take a minute to say to the community, Thank you!

The New Glarus Police Department recently moved in to our newly remodeled, state of the art, police department building. This project was a long time overdue, well needed and will greatly improve our day to today operations and interactions with the community.

Basically, we went from a one room operation with five desks, two or three people working at the same time and an old wood counter to serve people as they just walked in door. There weren't any individual offices, private areas, or a place to interview either crime victims or suspects, just one big open area. We had two other unfinished small back areas, however the heat and air conditioning in them was nonexistent. Our evidence storage was in the basement and had water leaking through it. Additionally, we shared one main bathroom right next to one of the officer's desk.

Early last year, we received approval to begin the remodel process and in September 2020, the actual remodeling began. It started with a complete internal demolition of all the existing areas, including removal of some walls, ceilings, the old heating, ventilation, plumbing systems and flooring.

Then began the creation of new doorways, windows, walls, flooring, multi-zoned heating and air conditioning, plumbing, bathrooms, a unisex locker room, a highly secured evidence room and storage system, private offices, a multi-purpose room that doubles as an video conferencing meeting area and emergency operation center. The entire building is controlled by a high-tech video and electronic access control security system. All these features are utilizing the most current, energy efficient technologies, fully ADA compliant and will support the department for the next 20 to 25 years.

In closing, I would like to say a few special thanks to those involved with our project. First and foremost to the community for backing us and supporting not only throughout this project, but for all the support you give us throughout the year. Trust me, in the times we are currently living in, you can't believe how much your support means to each and every officer who works here! Thank you.

Next, to all of the different Village committees, board, Administer Drake Daily and President Roger Truttmann. Your backing and support for this was undeniably key to getting it off the ground and completed, Thank You!

Next, our architect, Brad Werginz, from Angus Young Architects/Engineers, along with Al Bachman from Bachman Construction. The two of them, along with their staff, were able to take this old building, a dream and transform it into the most technologically advanced Police Department within the county. Both of them were there for every little question, clarification, let's change this or how about if we change that, and did so without any reservations or hesitations. Thanks Brad and Al.

Lastly, I would like to thank Lieutenant Jeff Sturdevant. Jeff was my go-to person throughout this entire project, from start to finish. With his 20-year plus experience in the department and the village, Jeff knew exactly what was needed, where everything was and right where it had to go. He diligently coordinated and managed the entire move from our old office over to the temporary office in the community room and then back into the new building, four months later. It was because of his ideas, input, dedication and help throughout the entire project to the project was a success! Thank you, Jeff.

Thanks again for your support, and if anyone would like a tour of your new police department, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Burt Boldebuck,

Chief of Police
