Belleville Girls Basketball Finishes 2020-21 Season on an Up Note
February 18, 2021
On Tuesday, February 9th, the Belleville Wildcats started their playoff season by traveling to Platteville to take on the Hillmen. The Hillmen came into tournament play as the 3rd seeded team, so the Wildcats knew they had their work cut out for them. From the start, you could tell there was great energy from the players and in the gym so you could tell it was going to be a fun night. The start of the game saw the Hillmen go into half time with a 4-point lead over the Wildcats. Coach Pharo said his team was very positive in the locker room at half time and they showed why by coming out and playing one of their best halves of basketball this season. This positivity and intensity led to them upsetting Platteville with a final score of 61-52.
Belleville was led by Ava Foley's 24 points and 8 rebounds, Callie Smith's 17 points and 17 rebounds, and Alyssa Caskey's 11 points and 7 rebounds.
With this win, the Wildcats advanced to take on New Glarus on Friday, February 12th. The Wildcats came out with great energy after their previous win, which led them to take a 29-22 lead over New Glarus at the half. Unfortunately, Belleville was not able to keep up their intensity, especially on offense, which allowed their lead to slip away in the second half and they watched New Glarus advance in the play-offs with a final 55-45 loss.
Belleville was led in scoring by Kenna Edge's 14 points, Mickey Stampfl with 10 points, and Callie Smith with 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Wildcats.
In closing, Coach Pharo would like to thank his parents, players, and the Belleville School District for allowing us to have a season this year. We are very hopeful that we can put this COVID pandemic behind us very soon and that hopefully we can get back to a normal season next year. Go Wildcats!
