Fifth Annual "Go Bigs or Go Home" Trivia Event Goes Virtual
March 18, 2021
Who would have known that last year's event on March 8, 2020, would have been the end of social life as we knew it. Less than a week later, we were in lockdown due to COVID-19. The world went virtual and Zoom meetings became the norm. So, when Jodi and Brian Bubenzer suggested "virtual", the planning began for the event held Sunday, March 7, 2021.
Brian is a "master" at trivia and that is how he and Jodi became friends with Jeremy. Through the use of Google forms, Brian was able to have each of the teams answer their questions in their private breakout rooms. Some teams gathered in person at one location and other teams chose to participate from their own homes. Jodi handled the technological end and also provided a slideshow of photos from previous events.
Eleven teams vied for the top spot, knowing that their only reward would be having their team name added to the plaque hanging on the wall at Puempel's Olde Tavern. There is an enormous amount of joy in helping to support the scholarship fund in memory of Jeremy Bigler, former Manager at Puempel's Olde Tavern, son of Judy and Steve Arn and Bill and Conni Bigler. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded this spring again to a deserving New Glarus High School Senior.
The top spot belongs to "Team Orange Whip" who love to compete and obviously are quite good at it. Team members include John and Denise Wright, Mark and Suzi Jonowiak, Kris Baumgartner and Loyd Smith. They also won the "BIGS" award. Thank you to all our other fantastic teams - The Supernaturals, SBFF, The Therizinos, Ninja Cats, An Album Cover, Cheese Fibs, Toff Enough, So You Think There's A Chance, and Knights 61.
We are extremely grateful to those who donated so many amazing gifts for our drawing: Connie Langfoss on behalf of The Attainment Company, Renee Lynch - About Face, Nancy Marty - Piece of Cake, New Glarus Bakery, Puempel's Olde Tavern, Hutch+Hide, Tofflers, Lollygag Antiques, Railroad St. Boutique, Brenda's Blumenladen, New Glarus Chamber of Commerce, Bruce and Jo Braughler and Heike Burk. Many thanks to Tory and Kelsy Hutchison, Connie Langfoss, Mark Mitchell, Jeff Norton and the New Glarus Brewery for donations to the Jeremy Bigler Scholarship Fund.
Can't wait for next year! In person at Puempel's Olde Tavern!
