Michael J. Mott

Michael James Mott, age 62, passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at the University of California San Diego Medical Center from complications of pancreatic cancer. Mike was born September 16, 1958, in Madison, WI, and the first born of four children to Gary and Margaret (Peggy) Mott.

After Mike graduated from Madison West High School in 1976, he set out to explore the U.S. by working in Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding area out west. In 1983, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country as a radioman on submarines until his discharge in 1989. He remained on the east coast as a government contractor, preparing and installing communications equipment. In 1995, Mike returned home to Wisconsin to be closer to his family. Mike worked for Bruker and later Accuray as an electronics repair technician in Madison. Through his faith and love of God, he met Cassandra (Cassie) Sell and they were married on April 26, 1997. The couple made their home in New Glarus and were active members of the Grace Church (New Glarus). Camping, fishing, biking, grilling and gardening were among his favorite outdoor hobbies, while he also enjoyed cooking and playing tuba and guitar. Mike was a compassionate and loving husband and friend, who demonstrated his faith through his actions to help those around him and his prayers for them.

Mike is survived by his wife, Cassie; parents, Gary and Peggy Mott; brothers, Dan (Jacque) Mott and Andy (Heather) Mott; sister, Amy (John) Cunningham; nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dwight and Genevieve Sell; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Darryl and Patricia Sell.
