Monticello Lioness Club Update

June 17, 2021

The Monticello Lioness Club was chartered in April 1981. There were 17 members, Sharron Rosenstiel was the first President and they met at Lena Graff’s bar. They first started having white elephant events, then they had a few quilt auctions. So this means the club is now 40 years old but as of June 30, 2021, we will be closing our doors. We are unable to use the Lions International liability insurance or the Lioness logo anymore.

Over the past 40 years, the club has run the food stand for homecoming, had a craft show in the fall, and lately sold flowers for Green Haven in Monroe. We distribute Valentine cheer baskets for local shut-ins, or this year we did May baskets instead. Over the years the club has given many high school scholarships, donated to the school for various events, donated to the Lions Camp at Rosholt, WI, donated to the vision and hearing programs for Lions and also donated to the Lions Eye Bank of Wis. There are six active members yet and we will be, or already have, joined the Monticello Lions Club.

For Homecoming, the Lions Club will be operating the food stand along with making the cheese curds. The kitchen will be operated as one unit. There will be four different sandwiches, along with homemade pies and brownies. If you would like to donate a pie or a pan of brownies, please call (608) 558-7950. Thank you!

We would definitely like to thank the community and local area for all their support over the last 40 years. It is something to be proud of. We look forward to continuing our community service through the Lions Club.
