New Glarus Farmers Market Celebrates "Community" For National Farmers Market Week

August 5, 2021

New Glarus Farmers Market joins markets across the country in celebrating National Farmers Market Week August 1-7, 2021. Join us this Friday, August 6, and every Friday through October 8, 3:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m., at the Bank of New Glarus Parking Lot at 1101 Hwy 69 New Glarus! Now in its 4th year, the New Glarus Farmers Market has played an essential role, supplying the community with locally grown and produced products. The pandemic has made it clear that local food systems are resilient, and can respond and adapt quickly to change while providing a positive weekly community gathering place.

The farmers market’s goal has been creating a space where everyone feels safe to come shop locally, fostering direct relationships between community members and farmers. This year we have seen the community embrace market vendors’ products with such high demand that it’s difficult for a customer’s favorite vendor to take a week off. Weekly at the market vendors bring in locally grown produce, herbs, meat, beef and lamb, homemade baked goods, honey, jams, canned goods, plants, flower bouquets, homemade spring rolls, crab rangoon, thai noodles and more, as well as crafts such as soaps, lotions, wool, alpaca fiber products, woodworking and more.

Michael McCarthy of Beeville Honey Blanchardville says, “Markets succeed because customers can count on all the ‘regular’ vendors, as well as the various seasonal vendors with spring plants to fall sweet corn, pumpkins and beyond. So many people have said that our little market has nice offerings and such a friendly energy! A great group to be part of ‘rain or shine’!”

Market Manager Danielle Zimmerman says, “Despite the stress COVID put on our lives, in 2020 through today, we love hearing/reading your comments on the benefits the farmers market brings to your lives. Farmers Markets don’t happen without a win-win of vendors doing the work of supplying a product to sell and customers coming weekly to the market willing to purchase those goods.”

Please, take a break from your daily routine to attend the New Glarus Farmers Market this Friday during National Farmers Market Week and experience for yourself the freshness of the products available and the positive community energy happening weekly at the market. Open Every Friday 3:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m., until October. Follow NGFM on our Facebook page and request to receive our weekly newsletter of what to expect at the market.
