Belleville Improves to 11-1 With Win Over Waterloo
January 20, 2022
On Friday, January 14th, the 7th ranked in Division 4 Belleville Wildcats girls basketball team traveled to Waterloo to take on the Pirates. It was Belleville's first game of 2022, due to other teams needing to postpone games.
Coach Pharo stated that, "The girls came out with a lot of energy but I could tell they hadn't played a game in over 2 weeks."
With that being said, the team, after making a quick defensive change in the first half, built a 29-21 lead going into the locker room at halftime. After the Wildcats came back out from halftime, they seemed more determined than ever to get back to the way they were playing before their lay-off and saw them score 44 points in the second half with everyone from Belleville's varsity roster seeing time on the court during this half of the game. The final score ended up with a 73-50 victory for Belleville over Waterloo.
The Wildcats were led by Ava Foley's 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals, Mickey Stampfl's 11 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block, Alyssa Caskey and Kenna Edge both chipped in with 9 points for Belleville, along with Addison Edge, Lainey Winkers and Callie Smith each contributing 6 points for the Wildcats, as well as Smith's 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 4 blocks.
The Wildcats have a busy week this week, playing Marshall on Monday, January 17th, Wisconsin Heights on Thursday the 20th, and top ranked in Division 4 Mineral Point on Saturday, January 22nd.
