Mary Strause celebrated her 90th birthday on June 20, 2015. She had a large turnout of family and friends attending from Georgia, Iowa, Illinois and many from Wisconsin. In lieu of gifts, Mary requested an item for the Green Cares food pantry located outside of Monticello. A total of 132 pounds of food was taken out to Green Cares.

College students continuing their post-secondary education are urged to apply for one of the scholarships being awarded in October by The Monticello Foundation, Inc. Students must have earned 24 college credits and be a graduate of Monticello High School to apply. Applicants are judged based on need, local community service, grades and leadership roles. Applications are available in the high school office or on the school’s website at monticello.k12.wi.us or themonticellofoundation.org The deadline for submitting applications is September 15, 2015.

The 44th annual Meat Animal Sale was held Thursday, July 18, 2015, at The Dane County Fair. The sale grossed $169,911.55, according to Dane County Meat Animal Sale Officials.
The sale attracted wide community support with a total of 112 animals sold, including 39 sheep, 51 hogs and 32 steers. Sheep averaged $5.58 per pound, hogs averaged $3.24 per pound and steers averaged $2.22 per pound.

Join your friends and family (and maybe even your enemies) for the Belleville Fun Run, taking place on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at 8:00 a.m. You have your choice of a 10K run, or a 5K run/walk. The Fun Run will be taking place at Sugar River Park.
The course is flat, with gentle rolling hills in the countryside north of Belleville. Please be aware, this is not a professionally timed event, so there are no chips, no video finish…this is a low-tech, old fashioned run/walk designed to be novice friendly as well as a fun race for the advanced racers.
