Monticello Beats Highland in Six Rivers Crossover

The Monticello girls basketball team hosted Highland in a Six Rivers Crossover game on January 26th. Up by 10 at the half, the Ponies kept that momentum going through the second half and won the game, 54-49.

Ponies Soar Over Comets

The Monticello Ponies played at Albany on January 25th. Monticello jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first four minutes, and while Albany chipped away at Monticello’s lead in the first and came within 1-point with less than four minutes left in the first, Monticello came back and scored six points to take a 22-15 lead at the break. Albany could get no closer than 4-points in the second half and with 16:07 left in the game, Braden Gafner hit two 3-pointers in less than a minute and Monticello stretched their lead to 20 with four minutes left.

Wildcats Lose to Marshall in OT

The Belleville Wildcats played at Wisconsin Dells on January 23rd, losing to the home team 50-98 after being down by 29 at the half.
Jaydon Winkers led the team with 11 points, five rebound and two steals. Jared Schulting scored 8 points and had three rebounds, one block and one steal while Jacob Shrader scored 6 points and had two rebounds and Royce Clark scored 6 points and had one rebound.

Knights Squeak Past Cambridge

At the game against Cuba City on January 23rd, the New Glarus Knights were ahead by 20 points at the half and felt secure that they would score another victory. However, the Cuba City team came out of the locker room reenergized and outscored the Knights in the second half. Hard work was put in by every team member to win the game. The final score was New Glarus 86, Cuba City 73.
Jaden Kreklow led the Knights with 24 points and was 5-5 from the free throw line. Cullen Brooks scored 21 points and Zach Feller scored 16 points, while Trevor Gassman scored 10 points.

Jessica Tidd Memorial FCCLA  Scholarship Winner

The Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America Jessica Tidd Memorial Scholarship is awarding one individual this year. Jessica Tidd was the daughter of Elementary Guidance Counselor Sonja Tidd.  At the time of Jessica's death, she was working diligently with her Family Consumer Sciences teacher at Verona trying to establish an active FCCLA chapter. Jessica had dreams of becoming an FCCLA State Officer. New Glarus students applying for this scholarship wrote a paragraph explaining their involvement helping and/or working with children and the importance of wearing seat belts.

Chickaree and Fisheree held Sunday, January 28

The Lake Montesian Fisheree, sponsored by the Green County Conservation League and the Monticello Lions Club, was held on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at Lake Montesian in Monticello.
The Chickaree is an event the Monticello Community Club started 20 years ago in conjunction with the Lion's Club Fisheree.
This year the volunteers of the Community Club grilled over 600 chickens. The chickens were basted with the traditional recipe that is also used at the Chicken Barbecue during Homecoming.

Feel Good About Giving Back by Donating Blood

Many people want to give back to the community but may not have a lot of time to volunteer. In only about an hour, volunteer blood donors can help save lives and feel instant gratification.
The community is invited to give back and help save lives by donating blood on Friday, February 23, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Zwingli United Church of Christ, 416 E. Lake Avenue, Monticello.

Join your family and friends at the Zwingli United Church of Christ, 416 E. Lake Avenue, on Saturday, February 10, 2018, for a Mardi Gras Dinner at 5:30 p.m., served in Fellowship Hall.
