Spring 2018 Citizen Police Academy

Interested in knowing more about the ins and outs of police work?  Want to experience the training officers go through?  Curious about how all that CSI stuff you see on TV works?  The Belleville Police Department will be hosting a Citizen Police Academy in the Spring of 2018.  Participants will partake in firing weapons, driving emergency vehicles, and collecting evidence.  K9 searches, field sobriety testing, and arrest tactics will be demonstrated.

Pie Appreciation for Teachers

Belleville PK-6 Principal William Conzemius wanted to show his appreciation for all the hard work that teachers put in all year. Conzemius said he had seen a CBS news story about Beth Campbell, a nationally ranked baker in Belleville, and thought it would be great to serve up some pies to the teachers. Beth came through with a huge variety of delicious pies.

LANA M. MOYER

Lana M. Moyer, age 42, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018, at Orchard Manor in Lancaster. She was born on December 16, 1975, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison to her parents, Darold and Margie (Derr) Moyer.
Lana grew up in Postville and later graduated from the New Glarus Christian School. She was united in marriage to John Forsyth and the couple later divorced. Lana was a wonderful daughter who loved her pets and enjoyed listening to Christian music on WNWC.
Lana is survived by her father, Darold; aunts; uncles; and cousins.

BETTY J. VETTERLI

Betty J. Vetterli, age 90 of Monroe, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018, after a brief bout with cancer. She was born on July 12, 1927. Betty and her cousin, Grace Ann Disch, were raised as sisters by their grandparents, Christ and Crescencia (Haegele) Kneubuehl, on the family farm.

Application Period Begins February 5 for Public School Choice Program

Online applications for public school open enrollment for the 2018-19 school year, Wisconsin’s public school choice program, will be available on the Department of Public Instruction website beginning February 5 through April 30.
Traditionally, children in Wisconsin are assigned to public school districts based on the location of their parents’ home. Open enrollment is a tuition-free opportunity for parents to apply for their children to attend a public school in a school district other than the one in which they live.

BFD Receives Grant

On January 25, 2018, the Belleville Fire Department received a grant of $900.00 from the Alliant Energy Hometown Safety Program. This grant went towards the purchase of an automated external defibrillator for the department. The grant was delivered by Mike Howard of Alliant Energy.

New Glarus Fire Department Holds First Annual Sportsmans Banquet

On Sunday, January 28, the New Glarus Fire Department held their First Annual Sportsmans Banquet. There were many raffle prizes, door prizes and a live auction. Proceeds of the banquet went to the building fund. The department plans to begin construction on the expansion in May and June of this year.

Thank You Belleville Library Lovers

The Capital Campaign Committee for Belleville’s new Library and Community Center is pleased to announce that the campaign has reached $630,000 of the Village’s challenge to raise $1 million toward the $3 million project.
“Belleville Library Lovers of all means have made cash donations and multi-year pledges to support the project,” said Library Director Bronna Lehmann. “We greatly appreciate the contributions from over 320 people and businesses so far.”
