Monticello High School Homecoming

Monticello High School's Homecoming Dance, themed Winter Wonderland, was held on Saturday, February 9, 2019.

The Homecoming court included, from left, Freshman Reps Seth Culberson and Sarah Brokopp, Junior Reps Garrett Grossen and Sarah Blumer, King Jeff Ace and Queen Abby Wicker, Senior Reps Andy Eyler and Claire Klossner, and Sophomore Reps Owen Ace and Dixie Wettach.

Beat ID Thieves to Your Tax Return

Tax season comes as a relief for folks who rely on a return to pay down bills, make a major purchase, or build a savings. But it is also a time when the damage from identity theft becomes very real for some taxpayers as they discover that identity thieves have filed returns in their names using information they stole during the year. Most consumers will not face any issues, but the unlucky few who are tax identity theft victims will have to wait on their money and may have to jump through some hoops to get their returns.

The Green County Nutrition Program is committed to reducing hunger and enhancing the health and well-being of older adults through access to good nutrition and socialization in their community. To help us achieve this goal, we reach out to community members who use the nutrition program, are directly related to participants, or are key members of their respective communities, and ask them to work with use as a member of the Green County Nutrition Advisory Committee. These members serve as the public voice for the local dining sites and home delivered meals.

Green County HCE Offering Scholarships

The members of the Green County Home and Community Education, Inc. (HCE) organization will be awarding two scholarships, in the amount of $300.00 each, available to a graduating senior of a Green County High School, a relative of a Green County HCE member or a member of a Green County 4-H Club, FFA or FLCA chapter. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage individuals to take advantage of continuing education opportunities. Applicants may attend a four-year public or private college or a Technical College either within the state of Wisconsin or outside of the state.

Sugar River Euchre

What a night January 31st was for Euchre league! The below normal temperatures and potentially hazardous road conditions caused several players to skip playing. Plus there was a perfect score, a skunk, and a score that will most likely be the low score for the half, if not the season.

Lady Wildcats Tame Vanguards

The Belleville girls basketball team hosted Wisconsin Heights on February 1st. Up by 11 at the half, the Lady Wildcats went on to win the game. The final score was Belleville 73, Wisconsin Heights 68.
Rachael Heittola poured in 34 points to lead the Wildcats, along with having 22 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 5 blocks. Jenna Shrader scored 15 points, had 7 rebounds and 3 assists, Sophia Grady scored 11 points, had 4 rebounds and 2 assists, and Ava Foley scored 10 points, had 2 rebounds and 2 steals.

Wildcats Fall to Heights

The Belleville boys basketball team played at Wisconsin Heights on February 1st. Down 10 at the half, the Wildcats were unable to keep up in the second, resulting in a loss. The final score was Belleville 59, Wisconsin Heights 80.
Sawyer Fahey led Belleville with 17 points, while Jaydon Winkers scored 10 points and Austin Fahey scored 9 points.
The team played at Palmyra-Eagle on February 5th, will play at New Glarus on February 7th and at Waterloo on February 8th.

Knights Win Over Cambridge

The New Glarus Glarner Knights traveled to face Cambridge on February 1st. After leading at the half, 28-13, the Knights outscored Cambridge in the second half to secure the win. The final score was New Glarus 63, Cambridge 42.
Zach Feller led the team with 14 points, while Trevor Gassman scored 12 points and Mason Martinson put 10 points on the board.
The Knights host the Wildcats on February 7th and Waterloo on February 12th and play at Wisconsin Heights on February 15th.

Lady Knights Lose to Mineral Point

The New Glarus Lady Knights hosted Mineral Point on February 2nd. Down by 8 at the half, the Lady Knights couldn’t overcome the deficit and lost the game. The final score was New Glarus 60, Mineral Point 71.
Lily Himmelmann scored 15 points to lead New Glarus, while Jaylynn Benson scored 12 points, Lexi Krause scored 11 points and Dylan Noll scored 10 points.
The team hosts Wisconsin Heights on February 8th, plays at Palmyra-Eagle on February 11th and will play at Waterloo on February 14th.
