Euchre Card Party

The Sugar River Senior Center, located at 21 S. Vine Street in Belleville, will be hosting two Euchre Card Parties on Saturday, February 23, 2019, and Saturday, March 30, 2019.
The cost to play is $6.00 per person, which includes card playing with prizes and lunch afterwards. Everyone is welcome.

Wolff's Bellefontaine Farms Shed Fire in Basco

In dense fog, nine fire departments responded to a fire at Wolff’s Bellefontaine Farms Inc., on Henry Road near Basco on the evening of Saturday, February 2nd, including Belleville, New Glarus, Verona, Mount Horeb, Fitchburg, Town of Madison, Monticello, Brooklyn, Blanchardville and Juda.
Fortunately for the Wolffs, former employee Rob Klassy and his wife, Jill, drove by and smelled something and, after a second look, Klassy saw flames. He immediately called 911 and then turned off the LP tanks.

LAWRENCE J. HEFTY

Lawrence J. Hefty, age 89 of New Glarus, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2019, at the Monroe Clinic Hospice Home. He was born on September 19, 1929 on the home farm, the son of Jacob and Olga (Blum) Hefty.
Lawrence attended the Meadow Valley School and New Glarus High School. On September 5, 1959, he was united in marriage to Joan Rogge at the Hope Lutheran Church outside Cottage Grove. Lawrence was a dedicated and life-long farmer. He enjoyed traveling, but the needs of running a farm kept him close to home. He maintained his Swiss heritage with the talent to yodel.

Patricia Marie Gedden passed her gentle soul on to God in the early morning hours of February 7, 2019, after a long and debilitating illness. She was born in Steubenville, Ohio, on November 22, 1954 to loving parents Wayne and Mildred Hoskinson, with whom she had a close relationship.

Have You Heard of QPR?

Dear Editor,
Have you heard Of CPR? Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), explained by the American Heart Association as, “An emergency lifesaving procedure performed when the heart stops beating. Immediate, CPR can double or triple chances of survival after cardiac arrest.” Suicide Prevention has the same type of life saving training, it’s called QPR.

Winter Road Conditions Not Good in Washington Township

Dear Editor,
My statement is short and to the point. Our roads this past cold and icy spell have been more than pathetic. I wish I could pick and choose NOT to pay my township taxes as they seem to pick and choose to do their job. We obviously need new leadership and dedicated workers to keep and maintain our roads better.
Won’t even mention the spring and summer issues.

New Glarus FCCLA Raises Money for Ben Jackson Foundation

Throughout the past several weeks, New Glarus FCCLA has hosted events to support the Ben Jackson Foundation. The Ben Jackson Foundation is a nonprofit organization that recognizes the sacrifice that newly enlisted members of the military have chosen to make and provides financial assistance to help them visit home from their first permanent duty station. FCCLA chose this foundation hoping to bring families in the community together.

A New Definition of ^Health Food^"

Everybody eats. Food can be contentious. Food is often identity; what a culture eats, ritual and rules exist around meals and specific foods. Some foods provide comfort, bring back pleasant memories, give us a sense of place. So called experts always seem to be shifting their opinions on what is healthy or unhealthy to eat.

The Spring Election will be held on April 2, 2019. Next week the <i>Post Messenger Recorder </i>will be sending out questionnaires for local candidates for the Spring Election.
The questionnaires allow voters to learn a bit about the candidates before going to the polls.
We get our information to send out the questionnaires from Village Clerks and School Districts. If you are running as a write-in candidate, or even considering running as a write-in, please let us know your contact information so that we can send you one of the questionnaires.
