Winter Bingo

Duppler-Smith American Legion Post #460 Belleville will be holding Winter Bingo on Sunday, March 31st.
Doors open at Noon, Bingo starts at 1:00 p.m. Cash Prizes determined by number of players. Food and refreshments served.

Lettman Receives Sasman Award

Amanda Lettman, member of the FFA Chapter of Belleville High School, is presented the Louis M. Sasman Award by Dick Hammerstrom, President of the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Madison. They are joined by the FFA Chapter advisor, Melissa Knudson.
The Sasman Award is given annually to an outstanding student from each of the FFA Chapters at Dane County High Schools. Mr. Sasman was the State Supervisor for Vocational Education for 36 years and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Madison for over 40 years.

With Snow Melt, Flooding Returns

Some roads were closed and the park in Belleville was flooded.

Dear Editor,
The outcome of the April 2 Supreme Court Race will help shape the future of Wisconsin for years, possibly decades. At stake are crucial issues including voting rights, gerrymandering, environmental protection, litigation over Act 10 and Lame-Duck legislation that may come before the court. In spite of the fact that Scott Walker was voted out of office, his influence remains in the Supreme Court through the judges he has appointed or supported in elections.

Stoikes Urges Voters to Consider Value of Exeter Park When Voting

Dear Editor,
The spring election is approaching and one issue that divides the candidates for Exeter Township Chairman is the overall value of Exeter Park to the community. The park sits along the Sugar River in Dayton, and offers many outdoor activities for local residents and those that travel the short distance from other communities. In addition to fishing and kayak access to the river, the park has a 9-hole disk golf course, a basketball court, park shelters, and benches and tables for use by picnickers, or those who wish to otherwise enjoy the outdoors.

Thoemke Supports Truttmann for New Glarus Village President

Dear Editor,
I served with New Glarus Village President Roger Truttmann for 8 years on the New Glarus Village Board, and in that time I came to like and respect him as a person. I’ve never doubted his intentions or affection for the Village. Nevertheless, I have at times admittedly been openly critical of his leadership and efficacy.
I often found his inability to take firm positions and embrace difficult choices frustrating. I believe that opportunities to put some of our community’s most vexing long-term challenges behind us have been missed, as a result.

Dear Editor,
Have you ever attended a town board meeting? Have you thought much about the responsibilities delegated to your local town board? Probably not, unless an issue has come up that concerns you personally. The Exeter Town Board in Green County consists of three elected supervisors who are responsible for various actions and decisions that impact the residents and businesses of Exeter township. All elected members take an oath of office which, we believe, should maintain and preserve the integrity of our governmental processes.

DAVID ALAN MERTENS

Dave passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019, at his lake home outside of Anchorage, Alaska. He was born on December 5, 1958, to Russell and Jean (Lemke) Mertens in West Bend, WI.
Dave was the youngest of four children. He graduated from West Bend East High School. He joined the Air Force out of high school and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. He was in the para-sea rescue unit for many years until he transferred to the air traffic control unit until his retirement from the Air Force.

Stephen W. Janisch, age 76 of New Glarus, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. He was born on May 9, 1942, in Janesville the son of Walter and Muril (Ross) Janisch.

Alice R. Handel, age 84, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Agrace HospiceCare, surrounded by her family. She was born on March 21, 1934, in New Glarus, WI, the daughter of Adolph and Lillian (Anderson) Sonsteby.
