Monticello M.S. FCCLA Celebrates a Successful Year

The members of the Monticello Middle School FCCLA chapter gathered on May 18th at Pizza Hut, to celebrate their accomplishments for the year. Each member was awarded with their membership certificate. The officer team of Miah Brokopp, President; Sarah Blumer, Vice-President; Mackenzie Errthum, Secretary; and Alyssa Holcomb, Reporter, received a FCCLA tumbler in appreciation for their efforts this year. Next year's officers, Alyssa Holcomb and Mackenzie Errthum, received their officer pins. They will be serving as Co-Presidents.

Public Safety Committee Meets to Discuss EMS Service

Anyone who wished to attend the Tuesday, May 17, 2016, Public Safety meeting in Monticello may have had a difficult time doing so. First, although it was supposed to be the “Public Safety Committee” meeting, no such committee was listed on the village’s website (the name has since been changed on the website). Even if someone knew it had been changed from the Police Committee, that listing said meetings were held the 4th Tuesday of the month. As it turned out, a committee member had a scheduling conflict and the date was changed.

A Beautiful Weekend for Spring Fling

Monticello Spring Fling had nearly perfect weather last weekend and many people turned out to enjoy the activities.
There were garage sales, that began on Thursday, and on Saturday there was music, a car show, craft fair and softball in the park. See more photos in the photo gallery.

Monticello FFA Competes at National Level

During the week of May 2-6 2016, Marissa Peterson, Brittany Disch, Madalyn Holtz and Erin Lehr travelled to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to compete in the National Land and Range Judging Competition. These four Monticello FFA members earned the right to compete in this contest by earning 4th place in the State FFA Soils Judging Contest last August.

Summer Supper and Dairy Queen Crowning

The Women’s Guild of Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello is sponsoring their annual Summer Supper on Friday, June 3, 2016, from 5:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m., in Fellowship Hall. The church is located at 416 E. Lake Avenue, and is handicapped accessible.
The menu includes Barbecues, Brats, Potato Salad, Deviled Eggs, Fruit Pies, Angel Food or Chocolate Cake, Strawberry or Chocolate Sundaes and beverages. Items are priced separately. Carry outs are available.
At 7:00 p.m., Karly Ready, the 2015-2016 Monticello Dairy Queen, will crown the 2016-2017 Monticello Dairy Queen.

Babler Honored for 50 Years of Service to Monticello Fire Department

Although Roger Babler (left) is not retiring, Monticello Fire Chief Kevin Komprood (right) presented an award thanking him for his 50 years of service to the department and to the community. Komprood noted that Babler is invaluable to the department and acts as unofficial historian, webmaster, and has been instrumental in pumper training. Congratulations Roger!

Belleville EMS Open House

Belleville EMS held their annual Open House on Wednesday, May 18th. Several area agencies participated including Belleville EMS, UW MedFlight, Green County Sheriff's Dept., Dane County Sheriff's Dept., Belleville Police Dept., Belleville Fire Dept., and Wisconsin State Patrol. People enjoyed demonstrations, food, Culver's frozen custard, face painting, finger casts and some even got pseudo-wounds. More photos are available to view in the photo gallery.

Belleville Fire Department Fish Boil

The Belleville Fire Department held their 20th Annual Door County Style Fish Boil on Saturday, May 21st. There was a large turnout of people to enjoy the delicious, all-you-can-eat fish, potatoes, onions, coleslaw, rolls and desserts. 2015-2016 Belleville Dairy Queen Denise Rankin and 2015-2016 Albany Dairy Queen Brittany Janes were on hand to serve cheese from local Green County cheese producers.

The Big Read

Recently, the Belleville Elementary School participated in the Big Read, part of Money Smart Week, along with Mr. Farrar's High School Marketing class. The Big Read took place on March 28, 2016, and it introduced the idea of saving money to our elementary students. Through generous donations from the community, and a few special guests, The Big Read made learning the fundamentals of money fun and exciting.

Belleville Prepares to Host 2016 Green County Dairy Days

Belleville Dairy Days organizers are busy preparing to host Green County Dairy Days, sponsored by the Green County Ag Chest.
“New this year is the Dairy Days Dash 5K Run and Walk,” said Tami Woller, one of the Dairy Days organizers. “Registration starts at 7:00 a.m., and the race will start at 8:00 a.m. at the top of the footbridge in Community Park, and follow the Belleville Triathlon route.”
