New Glarus Lions Club Donates Portion of Golf Outing Proceeds to Green Cares Food Pantry

The annual charity golf outing was held on Sunday, October 4th, at Edelweiss Chalet Country Club.
Due to COVID, the date was later than usual but the sun was out. The set-up and format were scaled back in order to ensure proper COVID precautions were taken, but golfers were understanding.
The outing was fortunate to have 22 teams participate and support the Lions Club.

Agrace Thrift Holiday Pop-Up Shop Opens October 23

Agrace’s annual Holiday Pop-Up Shop will open Friday, October 23, selling gently used, donated items for holiday entertaining, giving and decorating.
Located at 1702 W. Beltline Highway, Madison (the former A-1 Furniture site), the store will remain open five weeks, Wednesday through Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Because the shop’s merchandise is donated by the community, most items will be one-of-a-kind treasures.
Proceeds from the pop-up shop will help fund Agrace’s community grief support services and the Agrace Grief Support Center in Fitchburg.

New Glarus Area EMS is hosting a Halloween Blood Drive on Saturday, October 31, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at 401 3rd Street in New Glarus.

Scouts Help Byrd With Eagle Scout Project

Boy Scout Troop 106 had another scout put together his Eagle Scout project.
Graham Byrd, a current Life Scout, made the decision to help the New Glarus Fire Department with the construction of a block patio area that covers the new area outside the building addition the New Glarus Fire Department is currently working on.

New Glarus Public Library Goes Fine Free

For anyone who has ever avoided the library because of their long-overdue books, we have great news: New Glarus Public Library will no longer be charging overdue fines, and previous overdue balances owed to New Glarus will be forgiven.
With this change, the library joins a global equity movement that recognizes fines as presenting a significant barrier to low-income patrons. As an institution dedicated to free and equal access for all, libraries across the world are moving away from punitive “late fees” while continuing to encourage engagement and responsibility.

New Glarus FFA to Hold Annual Fruit Sale

It’s that time of the year again! The New Glarus FFA will be offering a virtual option to purchase fruit and would greatly appreciate your support by purchasing fruit, beef sticks or cheese from the annual fruit sale. Funds raised will go towards events such as chapter meetings, Ag Day at the elementary school, conferences, Leadership Development Events, and Career Development Events.

Scouts Help With Eagle Scout Project

The Boy Scouts from Troop 106 assisted one of their scouts on Sunday, October 4, 2020, with his Eagle Scout project.
The scouts assisted Matthew Collins with his Eagle Scout project, which consisted of assembling a new indoor/outdoor game for the Monticello Elementary School.
The game is called 9 Square, which the boys that went to summer camp three summers ago got lots of time to play.
The project took the boys about three hours to complete after Matthew Collins's prep work of about six months.
