Even with the 115 points accumulated by Kurt Beutel and Jack Gehin, the J&M Bar River-Rats couldn’t overcome this week’s low score of just 80 points scraped together by Tracy Beutel and Jim Gehin. Nor was Ernie Sarbacker and Al Legler’s 83 points sufficient to gnaw away at Steve Thoni and Don Cleary’s (Hooterville-Express) 112 points. The Express takes this one by 29.

Hunter Education Class to be Offered

The Belleville, Wisconsin, Hunter Safety Education instructors invite those interested in hunting and recreational shooting to enroll in a Wisconsin DNR Certified Hunter Education course. It is recommended that the students be 12 years old in order to take advantage of license incentives offered by the DNR. The minimum hunting age for hunting without having to comply with the new hunting mentorship program rules is still age 12, and the hunter must first complete a hunter education course if born on or after January 1, 1973, or have completed basic training with the U.S.

Chenoweth Named South Division Wrestler of the Year

The Capitol Conference is proud to announce their Wrestling All Conference and Wrestlers of the Year selections.
Sugar River’s John Chenoweth has been named to Capitol Conference Wrestlers 1st Team. Also named to 1st Team are Lodi wrestlers Jacob Harland, Garrett Moll, Branden Errthum, Colton Nicolay, Max Barreau, Jacob Heyroth, Casey Persike and JP Walterscheit; Kale Grossman and Justin Chadwick of Marshall; Josh Prey and Nick Koss of Poynette; and Lakeside Lutheran’s Clark Thiele.

Avalanche's Game Against La Follette/East Ends In Tie

On February 7th, the Monroe Avalanche co-op hockey team traveled to Hartmeyer Ice Arena to play Monona Grove. The Avalanche lost, 2-9.
Monona Grove hit the back of the net first during the game, and Monroe’s Tyler Johnson answered back with a short handed goal a few minutes later. Monona Grove scored four more times before Travis Edmunds, assisted by Tyler Johnson and Cade Martin, scored the second goal late in the second period on a power play. The third period was dominated by Monona Grove, who scored four power play goals in less than 10 minutes.

Ponies Lose To Orfordville at Buzzer

The Ponies led by 10 points at halftime against visitors Orfordville Parkview on February 6th, during a fast paced game. After halftime, Parkview came out on a 17-6 run and were leading by 1 point nine minutes in. The two teams traded baskets for the majority of the half until Parkview tied it up at 48 with less than two minutes to play. The horn was blowing when an Orfordville player launched a 15-foot shot from the left baseline that went in. The final score was Orfordville Parkview 50, Monticello 48.

Bantam A Team Shuts Out Verona

The Avalanche Bantam A team had a busy weekend of games starting February 10th vs. Verona, shutting them out 5-0. Scoring were Tessa Janecke, Roman Bauer, Cooper Dreyfus (2), and Hayden Roth. Earning assists: Hayden Roth, Brady Smith, Bryce Montgomery, Cade Janecke (2), Haley Knauf, and Tessa Janecke. The Avalanche outshot Verona, 43-7.

Knights Defeat Heights

On Thursday, February 9th, the New Glarus boys basketball team played at Wisconsin Heights. For the Knights, sitting at the top of the Capitol Conference, this game was a big one. After a 14-point lead going into halftime, the Knights won the game despite Heights outscoring them in the second. The final score was New Glarus 69, Wisconsin Heights 60.
The leading scorer for the Knights was Zach Feller, with 20 points. Cullen Brooks and Jaden Kreklow both scored 13 points.

Quilts of Valor Presented

Pictured are the sons Richard, William and Wayne Hustad of Mary Lou Hustad in front row. William, Richard and Wayne all served during the Vietnam Era and William served in Vietnam. William received his quilt in January 2016 during Winterfest and Richard and Wayne received their quilts at a family gathering on December 17, 2016. Vicki Sasso and Linda Stolts, representing Quilts of Valor, presented the quilts.

New Glarus Music Boosters Annual Spaghetti Supper

The New Glarus Music Boosters Annual Spaghetti Supper will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2017, at the New Glarus Hotel, serving from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Music will be provided by the New Glarus music students.
The menu includes All You Can Eat Spaghetti, Garlic Bread and Salad, all generously donated by the New Glarus Hotel, along with Drinks with milk generously donated by the New Glarus Dairy, and of course, Dessert!
The price of an adult (11 and older) ticket is $8.00, children 4-10, $5.00 and children under four eat free.

New Glarus FFA Participated in District Speaking Contest

On February 8th, Rebecca Barr and Ashley Judd attended the 2017 District 13 Speaking Contest. Both Rebecca and Ashley participated in the Discussion Meet and competed very well. Rebecca also competed in the Extemporaneous speaking event and represented our FFA chapter well. We highly encourage members to participate in the future, because it is a great way to improve your skills and also meet new people!
