New Glarus Falls Short Against Lodi

The New Glarus girls basketball team played at Platteville on December 4th. After being down 18-44 at the half, the Knights stepped up their offensive game in the second but it wasn’t enough to secure a win. They lost, 42-68.
Riley Parker led the team with 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Julia Barnaby scored 9 points and had five blocks, and Lexi Krause put 8 points on the board.

Knights Come Away With the Cheese

The New Glarus Knights boys basketball team played against the Monroe Cheesemakers in Monroe on December 5th. After an 11-point halftime lead, the Knights came away with the win. The final score was 74-67.
“We picked up a good road win tonight against a solid Monroe team. We got off to a shaky start, especially with our shooting,” said Coach Travis Sysko.  “I was happy with how the boys played in the 2nd after being down 15 at one point in the 1st half.”

Wildcats Score Win Over Cardinals

The Belleville boys basketball team played at Lake Mills on December 5th. After being down 17-22 at the half, the Wildcats lost to Lake Mills, 49-58.
Drew Shrader and Austin Fahey led the team in scoring with 12 points each.
On December 8th the Wildcats hosted Brodhead. The Wildcats led by 14 at the half and even though the Cardinals outscored them in the second, the Wildcats won, 80-69. Every time Brodhead made a scoring run, the Wildcats came back with an even bigger run.

Monticello Middle School and High School bands and choirs provided their audience with holiday entertainment at the annual Winter Concert held on Tuesday, December 5, in the Rehmstedt Gym.

American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program

High School students in Green County are invited to compete in the Annual American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program.
The High School Oratorical Scholarship Program has the full cooperation of Wisconsin school officials. The New Glarus and Green County contests will be conducted at the Veterans Memorial Hall in New Glarus on Sunday, January 14, 2018. Orientation for contestants will begin at 12:30 p.m.

On Saturday, December 9, 2017, the S'Wisco Taphaus held a Grand Opening Celebration. As part of that celebration, the New Glarus Chamber of Commerce welcomed the S'Wisco Taphaus with ribbon cutting ceremony.

Local Officers Make Kids' Christmas Brighter with ^Shop With A Cop^"

Shop With a Cop was held at the Monroe Walmart on Saturday, December 9th. Members of law enforcement from all communities in Green County participated and Santa and his special elf were present to meet with the kids. After choosing gifts for their families, the kids and officers were treated to cookies, donuts and a drink. If you would like to donate to Shop With a Cop, please contact your local police department.

Village of New Glarus 2018 Garbage/ Recycling News

The Village of New Glarus will be changing garbage/recycling haulers starting in January of 2018. With this change in providers come a change in the weekly pickup date from Friday to Monday, as well as a switch to automated pick-up of both trash and recycling. <strong> Pellitteri Waste Systems began delivering the new trash carts beginning December 13th. Please do not utilize these new carts for garbage pick up until January 2nd. Residents will continue to use their current recycling carts. </strong>

Old National Bank Donates to Shop With a Cop

Lieutenant Jeff Sturdevant, of the New Glarus Police Department, stopped by Old National Bank to pick up the bank's annual donation to Shop with a Cop through the generous contributions of associates and clients. Shop with a Cop also received many generous monetary donations.
Laura Vorpahl, Retail Center Manager noted, ^Folks in this community are very generous and supporting. We're so delighted to participate in this great event every year.^"

Monticello Sports Boosters 2018 Alumni Tournament

The 2018 Monticello Sports Boosters Alumni Tournament will take place on Saturday, January 6, 2018, and begins at 10:00 a.m. in the Monticello Schools gyms. The entry fee is $75 per team, which guarantees you two games. A concession stand will be available.
