Announcing the 2018 Kids From Wisconsin Auditions

The summer of 2018 will mark the 50th anniversary for the Kids From Wisconsin. The KIDS perform each summer throughout Wisconsin, with twice daily shows at the Wisconsin State Fair. 
The Kids From Wisconsin was formed in 1969 to showcase the best faces and talent of Wisconsin’s youth.  They have remained true to their mission and are now one of the most iconic and beloved performing troupes throughout Wisconsin.  Performing in nearly 65 shows each summer to over 120,000 terrific fans, this wholesome group of performers showcase the best of the best in musical talent.

Sugar River Wrestling Hosts Whitewater

The Sugar River wrestling team hosted Whitewater on December 21st. Sugar River scored 19 to Whitewater’s 52. There were several SR forfeits that helped Whitewater’s score.
Wrestling at 285 lbs, Sugar River’s Daniel Enloe won by fall over Carlos Martinez.
At 106 lbs, Joe Quaglia lost by major decision to Whitewater’s Tyler Gamble.
In the 126 lb weight class, Robert Chenoweth, Sugar River, lost by decision to Juan Cueller.
Wrestling at 132 lbs, Sugar River’s Max Gerner lost by decision to Jade Salmieri.

Avalanche Tops Milton

The Monroe Avalanche co-op hockey team hosted Milton on December 21st, winning 3-1.
“It was a close game that ended in a much needed win,” said Coach Josh Smith. “Now we’ll look to ride this momentum into tomorrow night’s game against Monona Grove.”

Monticello Boys Have Winning Week

The Monticello Ponies boys basketball team played at Belmont on December 19th, beating the home team 72-38.
The Ponies were down in the first half until Reece Rufer scored and then Braden Gafner went on an 8-2 run which included two 3-point shots and a 2-pointer, to give Monticello a 14-7 lead. In the last six minutes of the first, the Ponies went on a 12-0 run and were ahead by 19 at halftime.
The Ponies kept up the pressure in the second and everyone on the roster got a chance to play. Monticello outscored Belmont in the second 39-24 to win the game.

Sugar River Euchre

The first half playoff match between Kleeman’s Hay-Shakers and Eagle Heights, originally scheduled for December 21st, has been rescheduled for December 28th at 7:30 p.m. It will be held at Kleeman’s in New Glarus. The winner of this match will play the Hooterville Express, on a date yet to be determined, for a spot in the championship match to be held in March 2018.

Knights Sink Vikings

The New Glarus Knights boys basketball team hosted the Pecatonica Vikings on December 21st. Up by 9 at the half, the Knights outscored the Vikings in the second to win the game. The final score was New Glarus 94, Pecatonica 73.
Zach Feller, who scored six 3-pointers, led the team with 31 points. Cullen Brooks added two 3s of his own and put 17 points on the board, while Jaden Kreklow hit three 3-point shots to end the game with 16 points.
The Knights host Barneveld on December 28th and Platteville on January 2nd.

Lady Ponies Have Tough Week

The Monticello Lady Ponies hosted Albany on December 19th, and after Albany took a commanding 35-12 halftime lead, the Ponies could not recover in the second despite their best efforts and lost the game. The final score was Albany 74, Monticello 38.
Miah Brokopp led the Ponies with 8 points, while Alyssen Noriega scored 7 and Abby Wicker and Alexa Siegenthaler scored 6 each.
On December 22nd, the team headed to Argyle and lost, 29-64. No further information about the game was available at press time.

Wildcats Lose Two Road Games

The Belleville Wildcats boys basketball team played at Mineral Point on December 18th and lost, 38-77.
Drew Shrader led the team with 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists, while Jaydon Winkers had 8 points and one steal and Austin Fahey scored 6 points and had one rebound and one steal.
On Thursday, December 21st, the team played at Poynette. The final score was Poynette 61, Belleville 51.

Deadline Approaching to Order Hardwood Trees for Planting Spring 2018

Fall is almost over. It’s time to think spring. Then think spring tree planting. The Green County Land & Water Conservation Department is offering 11 varieties of trees and three varieties of shrubs for landowners interested in planting next spring. The tree varieties are: Bur Oak, Red Oak, White Oak, Swamp White Oak, Sugar Maple, Butternut, Sycamore, Apple, White Pine, Tamarack, and Norway Spruce. Shrubs available are: Arrowwood, Highbush Cranberry, and Witch Hazel. The trees and shrubs are bare root, and range in height between 1’-4’, depending on species.
