The United States Marine Corps proudly presents the Semper Fidelis All-American Program to recognize elite high school juniors who face life’s battles with the determination to succeed. These students embody a fighting spirit, much like the fighting spirit of a United States Marine, by taking on the challenges of succeeding academically while excelling in athletics and bettering their communities.

New Glarus has a magic, and the Chamber staff and our board of directors, along with our business community members, are proud to be part of its success. Together, we work tirelessly to help New Glarus shine brightly as a top-notch Midwest destination, and 2017 was an exciting, busy and productive year for us.

New Glarus Home Residents Grateful For Community's Generosity

Dear Editor,
The residents of the New Glarus Home were recently able to go Christmas shopping for their family members. All this was brought about because of the generosity of you people.
We are very thankful for those that donated new and lovingly used items, so that we could “shop.” We, the residents, have no money, nor any way to get out to shop, however, we still have loved ones and we want to be able to give them something. Your generosity allowed this to happen.
On a recent Saturday, we had our annual Christmas party with our families.

Schmalbeck Supports Seaver

Dear Editor,
The Director of the Monticello Public Library, Sharon Briggs, will be retiring at the end of December this year. It will be the Library Board of Directors responsibility to hire her successor. Carolyn Seaver, the current Library Aid, has been in her position for over a decade. She has been Ms. Briggs’ assistant during all this time. In my opinion, Carolyn is the obvious person to be Ms. Briggs’ successor. She is fully qualified and has excellent credentials.

HAROLD M. BABLER

Harold M. “Heinie” Babler, age 93 of Monticello, died Thursday, December 14, 2017, at his home.
Private graveside services will be held in Highland Cemetery, Monticello, at a later date.
The Voegeli-Newcomer Funeral Home, Monticello is assisting the family.

Danny Schlueter, age 70 of Belleville, WI, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. He was born on November 9, 1947, to his parents, Howard and Wilma (Lundeberg) Schlueter.

Monroe Clinic Christmas and New Years Hours

To celebrate the season, Monroe Clinic locations—and the main clinic in Monroe—are closed December 24, December 25, December 31, and January 1. FastCare, Urgent Care, and e-visits are available every day except Christmas. Monroe Clinic hospital and emergency department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 515 22nd Avenue, Monroe.

Letters to Santa

Dear Santa,
I want an American Girl doll, I think I want her to have brown hair because I have brown hair too. And I think I would actually like a Christmas dress for my American Girl doll and maybe a Santa hat too. Well, I am a good girl a lot of the times and I help my mommy around the house sometimes, except the cat boxes, they are yucky. I hope you like the cookies I make for you this year.
