Department of Public Instruction Releases School District Aid Numbers

The Monticello and New Glarus school districts will get a bump in funding during the next school year, while Belleville’s funding is expected to decrease, according to the latest general aid estimates.
Belleville is expected to receive $5,339,238 for the 2019-2020 school year, a decrease of $2,359 (or 0.04%) from last year, while Monticello is expected to receive $2,023,023, an increase of $13,571 (or 0.68%) from the 2018-2019 school year and New Glarus is expecting $5,926,031 for the 2019-2020 school year, an increase of $244,212 (or 4.30%).

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville celebrated its 202nd commencement ceremonies May 10-11, in Williams Fieldhouse. Students from our area who earned their Bachelor’s Degrees include: <strong>Kaitlin Hoven</strong>, Belleville; <strong>Baily Hubbard</strong>, Belleville; <strong>Ryan Smith</strong>, Monticello; <strong>Jessie Hawley</strong>, New Glarus; and <strong>Kelvin Johnson</strong>, New Glarus.

Bastille Day Lakefest

Bastille Day Lakefest is a unique festival celebrating Lake Belle View, nature and wildlife, health and wellness, Belleville’s French Heritage, family and community connections. It will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019, from 1:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m., with most events taking place in Belleville’s Community Park.

Heidi Festival and Blues, Brews &amp; Food Truck Festival in New Glarus

Last weekend the village celebrated the production of Johanna Spyri's classic children's drama, <i>Heidi</i>, and the 2nd Annual Blues, Brews and Food Truck Festival.
The <i>Heidi </i>play was presented in the High School auditorium on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Blues, Brews &amp; Food Truck Festival was held in Village Park all afternoon and into the evening.

2nd Annual Richard Garner Memorial Ride

The second annual Richard Garner Memorial Ride kicked off in Madison on Saturday morning. The ride is a fundraiser in honor of Madison firefighter Richard Garner, who passed away in April 2018 when he collapsed after finishing a shift.
The over 100-mile memorial ride started in Madison and passed through a number of towns including Edgerton, Evansville, Monticello, Blanchardville and New Glarus before ending Verona.
New Glarus Fire Department assisted the ride with traffic when it came through.

Sugar River Raiders Receive Awards

The Sugar River Raiders girls soccer team recently held their awards banquet, wrapping up their fantastic season.
<strong>Raider Team Awards</strong>
Rachael Heittola was named MVP, while Brooke Watrud was named MIP. Sydney Gentilli received the Coaches Award and Peri Erickson and Brooke Watrud received the Scholastic Award.

2019 Dairy Day Cattle Show Results

The 2019 Green County Dairy Days Cattle Show concluded on Saturday, June 15th, with enormous success. This year's show was hosted by the Browntown Community, co-chaired by Dean Reeson and Mike Marean, and the show took place at the Green County Fairgrounds in Monroe, Wisconsin. There was a great turnout of spectators and sponsors to cheer on the 37 youth from different counties who came out to participate.
