<strong>Area Students Named to Dean’s List for Fall Semester at UW-Eau Claire</strong>

The Norsk Cowboys were unable to trap a single rat as they lost for the second time in as many weeks. This week it was by 42 points at the hands of J&M Bar River Rats. After an in-depth investigation into their second loss, it was revealed that all the Cowboys, except for Don Field and Ferdie Schmitz, who shot 118 holes in the River Rats, were using blanks. As for the River Rats, two of the couples collected 105 points for the night’s feast while the other two couples gathered 104 points.

Hockey Team Splits Week

On January 14th, the Monroe co-op hockey team hosted the Oregon Panthers at SLICE. The home team lost, 2-3.
Monroe’s goals came late in the third period. Payton Stauffacher, assisted by Luke Kuberski and Ryan Molitor, put the team on the board and shortly thereafter Cade Janecke scored on a penalty shot.
Heath Bear had 36 saves on goal.
On January 16th, the team played at Beloit Memorial, winning 4-1.
Payton Stauffacher put the Cheesemakers on the board first on a power play in the first period.

Knights Beat Heights

The New Glarus Glarner Knights played at Mineral Point on Monday, January 13th. Down 36-21 at the half, the Knights lost the game 44-67.
Nathan Streiff led New Glarus with 19 points while Mason Martinson scored 8 points and Connor Siegenthaler scored 6 points.
New Glarus fared better at Wisconsin Heights on January 16th. Up 36-29 at the half, they cruised to a 64-55 win against the Vanguards.
With 23 points, Nathan Streiff was the top scorer for the Knights, while Mason Martinson scored 20 points and Connor Siegenthaler put 9 on the board.

Lady Knights Win Over Wildcats

The New Glarus Knights girls basketball team traveled to play Belleville on Tuesday, January 14. Leading by 11 at the half, 33-22, the Knights went on to win the game 70-43.
Leading the balanced scoring attack was junior Jaylynn Benson with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Dylan Noll contributed 17 points. Senior Lily Himmelmann added 12 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Sophomore Ellie Eichelkraut made some great cuts to the basket and contributed 10 points. Senior Brooke Watrud added 5 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and had 4 assists.

Cardinals Stun Wildcats

The Belleville Wildcats boys basketball team hosted Marshall on January 16. Down 20-29 at the half, the Wildcats couldn't keep up with Marshall's offense in the second half and lost. The final score was Marshall 60, Belleville 36.
Trevor Syse led Belleville with 13 points, while Sawyer Fahey scored 10 points and Kody Fahey put 5 points on the board.

Belleville Girls Basketball Falls to New Glarus in Conference Home Opener

On Tuesday, January 14th, the Belleville girls basketball team opened their home conference play in a disappointing loss to the New Glarus Knights. The Wildcats struggled with their shooting game right out of the locker room and the Knights were able to overcome the Wildcats with a final score of 70-43.
Belleville's sophomore Callie Smith dominated the Wildcat scoreboard on this night and took home her season high of 20 points. Jenna Shrader and Ava Foley each contributed 7 points respectively to the Wildcats scoreboard.

Ponies Named Team of the Week by Wisconsin Sports Network

The Monticello Ponies played at Black Hawk on January 14th. The Ponies led at the half, 26-17, and galloped to a 64-50 win against the Warriors, the first Ponies win at Black Hawk since 2011-2012.
Leading the entire first half, the Ponies began the second half with a 10-0 run and the closest the Warriors could get was 9 points for the rest of the game.

<strong>Oliver Named to Dean’s List at UW-River Falls</strong>
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls fall semester Dean’s List honoring 1,755 students has been released by Registrar Kelly Browning. To be named to the Dean’s List, a full-time undergraduate must earn a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a scale of 4.0, or midway between an “A” and “B” average. <strong>Travis Oliver</strong>, Albany, an Agricultural Business major, has been named to the Dean’s List.

Street Trees Available to New Glarus Residents

Village of New Glarus property owners interested in getting new terrace trees are invited to participate in the village’s 24th Annual Arbor Day Tree Planting. Plans are now under way for this spring’s planting, which will occur in early May.
