Knights Crush Platteville

The New Glarus Glarner Knights played at Darlington on December 20th. Down 20-42 at the half, the Knights did rally during the second half to outscore the home team but couldn't pull off a win. The final score was Darlington 78, New Glarus 61. No further information was provided by press time.
On December 27th, the team played at Monroe. Only down by 1 at the half, 33-34, the Knights were outscored in the second half and lost to the Cheesemakers. The final score was Monroe 79, New Glarus 62.

Lady Knights Win Over Cuba City

The New Glarus Lady Knights hosted Cuba City on December 30th. After being ahead at the half 24-15, New Glarus hung on to win it, 48-42.
Dylan Noll scored 11 points to lead the team, while Lily Himmelmann scored 10 points and Brooke Watrud and Jaylynn Benson both scored 8 points.
On January 6th, the team played at Mineral Point and will host Wisconsin Heights on January 9th and play at Belleville on January 14th.

Wildcats Compete at Platteville Jamboree

The Belleville Wildcats boys basketball team attended the Platteville Jamboree at Platteville High School on December 27th and 28th. The first game was played on Friday against Wauzeka-Steuben. The Wildcats won, 72-46. No further information was provided by press time.
On December 28th, the Wildcats played against Platteville. After leading at halftime 31-22, the Wildcats went on to win the game, 66-53. No further information was provided by press time.

Ponies Stay Undefeated With Win Against Brodhead

The Monticello Ponies continued their undefeated winning streak into the new year on January 2nd at Brodhead by beating the Cardinals 87-67, after leading at halftime 36-28.
The home team’s only lead was in the first half by 1 point, but the Ponies had a 12-4 run to go up 20-13 with 12 minutes left in the half.
The second half was all Ponies, as they started the half with a 19-9 run to go up by 18.
Monticello’s Reece Rufer scored his 1,000th career point with 2:10 left in the game.

Raiders Compete at Sauk Prairie Invite

The Sugar River Raiders wrestling team competed at the 2020 Sauk Prairie Eagle Invite on Saturday, January 4th.

Wrestling at 106 lbs was Nathan Balderas (5-6). In round one, Balderas lost by fall to Irie Jackson of Madison La Follette. Balderas had a bye for round two and in round three lost by decision to River Valley's Richard Gilbert.

Lady Wildcats Fall to Lake Mills and Lakeside Lutheran in Holiday Tournament

On Friday, December 27th, and Saturday, December 28th, the Belleville Lady Wildcats basketball team traveled to Lake Mills.
The Wildcats played 3rd ranked in Division 3 Lake Mills on Friday. The game was much closer than the final score would have indicated. With 13:43 left in the second half, the game was tied at 44, but the Wildcats couldn't keep up their intense defense and Lake Mills started raining down 3-pointers. The final score ended up being Lake Mills 82 and Belleville 60.

Searching for Artists for Second Street Mural

Albion Swords and the New Glarus Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to brighten 2nd Street! In the spring of 2020, the east wall of the Albion Swords building, at 421 2nd Street, where the New Glarus Foods logo is currently located, will be painted with a colorful mural to enliven the street and increase visitor foot traffic.

Annual elections for the New Glarus Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Executive Committee will be held in late January.
