Ponies Win Over Barneveld and Juda

The Monticello Ponies boys basketball team hosted Barneveld on January 5th. Monticello led 22-15 at the half, and outscored Barneveld in the second to win the game. The final score was Monticello 36, Barneveld 26.
Leading Monticello with 17 points was Peter Gustafson, who also had 9 rebounds. Blake Klitzke and Rudy Wicker each scored 5 points. Wicker pulled down 6 rebounds while Logan Blum had 5 rebounds.

Knights Win Over Ponies, Lose to Mineral Point

The New Glarus Knights hosted Parkview on January 5th. They led at halftime, 46-31, and won the game. The final score was New Glarus 82, Parkview 51.
Carter Siegenthaler led the Knights in scoring with 15 points while Breckin Faber and Nathan Streiff scored 13 points each and AC Strok scored 12 points.
On January 7th, the Knights hosted the Ponies of Monticello. New Glarus led by 4 at the halftime break, and held on to the lead throughout the second half to win the game. The final score was New Glarus 68, Monticello 57.

Wildcats Have Difficult Week

The Belleville Wildcats played at Poynette on December 28th. Down by 2 at the half, the Wildcats scored almost even with the Poynette team in the second half but lost. The final score was Poynette 57, Belleville 54.
With 24 points, Trevor Syse led the Belleville team in scoring, while Anthony Nolden scored 9 points and Carson Syse scored 8 points.

Belleville Girls Basketball Gets First Conference Win at Cambridge and Falls at Dodgeville

On Monday, January 4th, the Wildcats traveled to Dodgeville to take on the Dodgers. When they arrived, they found a team that was rounding into top performance after their season started late. With that being said, the Wildcats came out strong and took the lead early but after a few minutes in Dodgeville began gaining steam. Coach Pharo stated that unfortunately his team had some assignment issues, which saw Dodgeville take a 40-25 halftime lead.

SR Wrestling Wins Over Cambridge

The Sugar River wrestling team hosted Cambridge on Thursday, January 7th, in New Glarus. Sugar River won the match, 36-18.
Wrestling at 120 lbs, Mason Mau won by fall over Kody Finke.
Avery Lettman, wrestling at 145 lbs, won by fall over Cole McIlroy.
Wrestling at 195 lbs, Carson Loshaw won by fall over Jamayne Flom-Pressley. Loshaw won over Flom-Pressley a second time as well, by fall.
Jacob Walker, wrestling at 285 lbs, lost by fall to Mitchell Gomez. Walker also lost by fall to Gunnar Sperle.

Swiss Church ^Share the Warmth^" Program Looking for Donations"

The Swiss United Church of Christ’s January Mission Event is “Share the Warmth”! They are collecting new warm hats, mittens, and gloves. Some items will be shared in our local community, others will be taken to Dane County Homeless shelters.
Please drop items to the church office by January 31, 2021, or during their “Drive by Drop Off” event on Sunday, January 31, 2021, from 9:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m. Thanks for your support!

Monticello Public Library Receives National Grant For Small And Rural Libraries

The Monticello Public Library has been selected as one of 200 libraries to participate in Libraries Transforming Communities: Focus on Small and Rural Libraries, an American Library Association (ALA) initiative that helps library workers better serve their small and rural communities.
The competitive award comes with a $3,000 grant that will help the library complete their first strategic plan beginning in the fall of 2021.

Recent Monticello High School graduate Cassondra Schenkel has been awarded a $500 scholarship from Monticello Community Club President Scott Babler. Schenkel is attending UW-Whitewater.

Masonic Lodge Presents Scholarships to Three Belleville High School Graduates

The New Glarus Masonic Lodge #310 recently presented scholarships to three 2020 Belleville High School graduates.
Erin Kittleson is attending Edgewood College and studying General Business.
Hansi Bartle is attending UW-Madison pursing a degree in Engineering Mechanics with Aerospace. Hansi hopes to someday have a career working for Boeing designing aircrafts or SpaceX designing spacecrafts.
Ogden York is attending UW-Whitewater to earn a degree in Physical Education and is considering furthering his education with a Master's Degree in the future.
