Ponies Win Over Panthers

The Monticello Ponies varsity boys basketball team hosted the Juda Panthers on Thursday, January 13th. The Ponies were ahead by 4 points at the half and they stepped up on offense and defense and held Juda to just 11 points the second half to win the game. The final score was Monticello 63, Juda 33.

Monticello Girls Victorious Over Barneveld

On January 6th, the Monticello Ponies varsity girls basketball team hosted Albany. Down by 30 at the half, the Ponies lost the game. The final score was Albany 73, Monticello 24.
“Albany is a good team with a lot of girls who can score,” commented Coach Lori Brokopp. “We struggled with their pressure defense.”
Leading the Ponies with 9 points was Ellie Gustafson, while Dalana Trumpy scored 7 points, Sarah Brokopp scored 4 points and Sadie Wilkins and Karlee Wilkins both had 2 points.

Lady Knights Beat Marshall for First Time in Ten Years

On Tuesday, January 11th, the New Glarus varsity girls basketball team played at Wisconsin Heights. Leading 22-11 at the half, the team went on to win the game, 57-31.
Leading the Knights with 22 points was Lindsey Schadewalt, while Grace Nommensen scored 15 points and Elle Lancaster put 6 points on the board.

Swiss UCC Food Pantry Now Open

The Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus has started a food pantry for anyone facing food insecurities. They are open on Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. The pantry will be located on the lower level of the Zwingli House, adjacent to the church at 18 5th Avenue.
The inventory consists of non-perishable food items and personal care items.
Delivery is available within village limits, please call the church office at (608) 527-2119.

Green County Public Health Adopts CDC's New Isolation and Quarantine Guidance

Recently, the CDC updated their isolation recommendations for people who tested positive for COVID-19, as well as their quarantine recommendations for individuals who have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19. Green County Public Health began utilizing these new recommendations.
Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 should isolate at home for at least 5 days, whereas symptom onset date is day 0, and wear a mask when around others for an additional 5 days, for a total of 10 days.

Monticello to Host First ^District Day^"

Monticello Schools is excited to invite young families in the area to their first “District Day”. This event will take place on Saturday, January 29th, from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., and is aimed at newer families in the district or those with newborns on up. Offering young families an opportunity to learn and be excited for what the school and community has to offer. Chances to meet with multiple local daycare providers, the library, and our early education program, all of which will be hosting crafts and projects.

Lake Montesian Fisheree

The Lake Montesian Fisheree will take place on Sunday, February 6, 2022, from 7:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., at Lake Montesian in Monticello. The Fisheree is sponsored by the Monticello Lions Club.
Door prize drawings will take place at 1:30 p.m., and the Grand Prize will be drawn at 2:30 p.m. There will be concessions available.

Is there a safe amount of alcohol during pregnancy? The answer is no. This even includes the period while trying to get pregnant. In fact, alcohol has risks to a pregnancy before a woman might even know she is pregnant. Alcohol crosses from maternal blood to the fetus. Potential risks alcohol can have on a pregnancy include: miscarriage, stillbirth, intellectual disability, and birth defects.

Belleville Schools Students of the Month

Congratulations to our December Student of the Month recipients. Students are nominated by their teachers based on achievement, leadership, service, and character. Teachers have created personalized messages for each student, which were read to these students during a special pizza luncheon. Green County HCE Offering Scholarships for Local Students

The members of the Green County Home and Community Education, Inc. (HCE) organization will be awarding two scholarships, in the amount of $500.00 each, available to a graduating senior of a Green County High School, a relative of a Green County HCE member or a member of a Green County 4-H Club, FFA or FCCLA chapter The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage individuals to take advantage of continuing education opportunities. Applicants may attend a four-year public or private college or a Technical College either within the state of Wisconsin or outside of the state.
