MARY L. ELEY

Mary Lynette Eley, age 94, passed away on January 2, 2022, at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. She was born on August 11, 1927, in Dayton, WI, to Alvah Louis and Mary S. (Schuler) Howard.
Lynette attended a one room school until going to high school in Belleville, WI. She graduated from high school at 16 years of age, immediately moving to Madison to attend Business School while working at Kroger's. Lynette went to UW-Platteville where she graduated with her 3-year teaching degree in 1948, and her Bachelor of Science degree in 1951.

Masonic Lodge Awards Scholarships

New Glarus Masonic Lodge #310 presented scholarships to two recent New Glarus graduates, Shealyn Klosterman-Havens and Jackson Schiro.
Shealyn is attending UW-Platteville with a goal of graduating in three years with a degree in Agribusiness and hopes to find a job in the Agronomy field.
Jackson is attending UW-Whitewater Rock County and is working towards a degree in Clinical Therapy. Jackson chose that particular path of study because he wants to help individuals who struggle with managing their mental health.

Green County Market Steer/Market Heifer Weigh-In

The annual Green County Market Steer/Heifer Weigh-In will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Equity Livestock located south of Monroe, from 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. In case of inclement weather, the snow date will be Saturday, January 15th. An announcement will be made over WBGR radio prior to 8:00 a.m. on the morning of January 8th if the weigh-in will be re-scheduled due to inclement weather.

Knights Vanquish Demons

The New Glarus Glarner Knights hosted Deerfield at the New Glarus Holiday tournament on Monday, December 27th. The Knights led 35-27 at the half and cruised to a 72-56 win over the Demons.
Dain Walter, who was 4 for 4 from the free throw line, led the Knights with 18 points, while Bryce Stampfli scored 16 points, Carter Siegenthaler put 15 points on the board and A.C. Strok scored 13 points.

Rockets Blast Ponies

On December 30th, the Monticello Ponies boys varsity basketball team played at Randolph. Down by 15 at the half, the Ponies were held to only 11 points in the second half while Randolph scored 31 to secure the win. The final score was Randolph 70, Monticello 35.
The Rockets jumped out to a 19-4 lead in the first six minutes of the game and never trailed after that.
Jackson Eyler put 13 points on the board for the Ponies and pulled down 3 rebounds, while Kade Ace scored 10 points and Ryer Indergand pulled down 4 rebounds.

Hailey is attending UW-Madison and working towards a degree in Human Development and Family Studies and plans to complete a sonography program and specializing in women's health.
Elizabeth is attending Edgewood College and majoring in Nursing. She plans on becoming a Labor and Delivery Nurse.
Alexis Lamboley is attending UW-Stevens Point and double majoring in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education.

Verona American Legion Grand Reopening and Pork Chop Dinner

The Verona American Legion will host its grand reopening (health conditions permitting) with a dine-in pork chop dinner on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Meal includes a pork chop, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green beans, apple sauce, dinner roll and one dessert. Cost is $12.00 per person, exact change is appreciated. A carryout option will be available (drive through service will not be provided).
