Wisconsin State Veterinarian to Allow Spring Pig Weigh-Ins After Two-Year Ban

Spring pig weigh-ins that usually take place in preparation for Wisconsin’s numerous county fairs will be allowed next year, according to Wisconsin’s State Veterinarian.  Previously, Dr. Paul McGraw had banned the weigh-ins as a preventive action to control the spread of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus (PEDv), Porcine Reproductive Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS), and influenza.

Claudette M. Murphy

Claudette Mary Murphy, age 78 of Belleville, passed away at her home with her family by her side on October 22, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on December 3, 1936, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison to her parents, Claude and Edith (Larson) Loughead.

Deadline Approaches to Sign Up For Conservation Practices

The Green County Land and Water Conservation Department is accepting applications for soil conservation and water quality practices.
Practices approved for the Land and Water Conservation Department are paid on a 70% cost-share per practice basis. The exception to this rule is for nutrient management. This practice is paid on a flat rate of up to $28 per acre. The signup will continue until December 31, 2015.

Lions Clubs Fundraiser at Culver's for Green Cares

The Lions Clubs of Albany, Monticello and New Glarus will be teaming up with Culver’s of New Glarus in support of Green Cares Food Pantry. On November 9th, Culver’s will donate 10 percent of all sales made between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to Green Cares Food Pantry.

Operation Migration Whooping Cranes Depart at Sunrise from Rural New Glarus

On Sunday morning the Whooping Cranes from Operation Migration departed the New Glarus Area. Approximately 60 people were on CTH NN shortly after dawn to watch the cranes and the ultralight fly over. Operation Migration has played a lead role in the reintroduction of endangered Whooping Cranes into eastern North America since 2001. In the 1940s the species was reduced to just 15 birds.

Faith Family Shredding Day

In his book, The Land Remembers, Ben Logan writes, once you have lived on the land, been a partner with its moods, secrets, and seasons, you cannot leave, touching you in unguarded moments, saying, you are part of me. Let me hear the drying plants rattle somewhere in a cold wind and I am with the corn-shredding crew.
And so it was this past Saturday, a day, just as Ben Logan described, when the Bob and Nancy Faith family invited guests to their farm south of Monticello for their annual corn shredding day, an event that they have been holding for 10 years.

Area Trick or Treat Schedule

Monticello Trick or Treat Hours will be from 2:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m., on Saturday.
Haunticello Fest will be held from 5:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m., at Marshall Bluff Bowhunter’s Club, 7326 Marshall Bluff Road, Monticello.
<strong>New Glarus</strong>
On Friday, at 5:00 p.m., Halloween Fun Night will be held in the New Glarus Middle School Multi-Purpose Room. For children 6th grade and under.
New Glarus Trick or Treat Hours will be held from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., on Saturday.

Belleville Falls to Heights

In their last match of the regular season, the Belleville volleyball team lost to Wisconsin Heights 14-25, 13-25, 13-25.
Mikayla Cann and Alli Kowalski had one ace apiece while Lauren O’Connor and Krista Diaz had one block each. Lucy Grady struck two kills, and Kowalski had three assists; additionally, Ryley Helwig earned eight digs.
Their conference record is 0-10 and overall record is 5-18.

NG Edges Cambridge 3-2

In their final conference match of the season, the New Glarus volleyball team edged Cambridge, 21-25, 25-23, 28-26, 20-25, 15-10.
With this win, the Knights earned the fourth spot in the Capitol Conference South behind Marshall, Wisconsin Heights, and Waterloo.
“The girls had some ups and downs, but overall, they pulled out a big win. They had some good stats, but an area of focus before our first regional game will be serving,” explained Head Coach Kelsey Schmit. “The team was thrilled to get a win on a night honoring our wonderful seven seniors.”

New Glarus Youth Baseball to Host Wine, Cheese, and Tapas Night

The New Glarus Youth Baseball teams will be hosting a wine, cheese, and tapas night on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Edelweiss Chalet Country Club in New Glarus located at W4764 Edelweiss Road.
All proceeds benefit the youth baseball teams to provide uniforms and equipment needs.
The numbers for the teams have steadily been rising, and more uniforms are needed as there are more kids going out; additionally, equipment gets outdated.
