Halloween Food Drive

Members of the Monticello High School FCCLA will be conducting their annual trick or treat food drive on Halloween. Members will be going door-to-door in the village of Monticello on Saturday, October 31st, to request donations of nonperishable food items or cash.
Members will start canvassing the village at 3230 p.m. All donations will be given to Green Cares Food Pantry, which serves all of Green County. We appreciate your support of this service project.

Trivia Night on November 7

Looking for a fun night out? Get some friends and coworkers together for Belleville Public Library’s Trivia Night on Saturday, November 7th, at 7:00 p.m. We will play at Schwoegler’s Sugar River Lanes.
Don’t worry that you don’t know enough to participate. We play on teams of 6-10 adults and high schoolers. It is amazing how many answers pooling your knowledge can produce. There’s also a lot of laughter involved.

First United Church of Christ Annual Dinner

The Annual Church Dinner at First United Church of Christ, 130 E. Church St., Belleville, will take place on Saturday, November 14th.  Serving Family Style from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., the menu includes: Turkey, Ham, Meatballs, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Green Beans, Coleslaw, Buns, Cheese and Homemade Pies. 
Adults, $11.00; Children 6-12 years, $5.00; and Children 5 years and under, free.  Carry outs $11.00 and deliveries available within a five mile radius.

Road Rally 2015 is Coming Up

We are getting down to the wire!!! Road Rally is almost here and we had a very busy week! We had about a million calls back and forth, changing this wording, this spelling, adding something, removing something…Yes, it is like a rewrite.
I think it must be like a book, the author submits it, the editor sends it back and it goes on and on until it shows up on the best sellers list!!!
I’m sure that Barb and I will end up there someday!! Yes, I know, in OUR dreams!!

Standards Based Reporting

As we develop stronger instructional practices that allow our students to achieve more, we need to address how we report student progress. Grades K through 6 will be piloting a new report card this year.
The traditional report card gave parents minimal amounts of information and we want to report specifically where students are in their learning. This type of communication will help create a much stronger learning community.

When Francis Scott Key wrote the “Star Spangled Banner,” he called America “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” Those words are as true today as they were then.
Throughout this nation’s history, America’s soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen have bravely answered the call to defend our freedom, to come to the aid our friends and allies, and to turn back aggressors.
We can never fully repay our debt of gratitude to the more than 650,000 American service members who died in battle or the 1.4 million who were wounded.

Monroe Clinic Hospice Provides Grief Support During the Holidays

For adults grieving the loss of a loved one, the holidays can be an especially challenging time of year. To help people cope with grief during the Christmas season, Monroe Clinic Hospice is offering “Handling the Holidays” at the St. Camillus Center, 2101 6th Street, Monroe, on Saturday, November 7, from 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
The program will help participants:
identify common holiday concerns
explore depression as a part of grieving
develop practical strategies to handle the holiday season
discuss the role of spiritual comfort during the holidays

Dear Editor,
The New Glarus Area EMS would like to thank the New Glarus Community Foundation for the grant which made it possible for the service to add Intraosseous to both ambulances. Intraosseous infusion (IO) is the process of injecting directly into the marrow of a bone to provide a non-collapsible entry point into the body. This technique is used to provide fluids and medication when IV access is not available or not feasible.

Ag Plastic Recycling Offered in Green County

Farmers from Green County and the surrounding area will again have an opportunity to dispose of used Ag Plastic from wrapped bales, silo bags, bunker silos and greenhouse covers this fall from November 9-20 at the Green County Landfill. The landfill will be accepting agriculture plastics from 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., daily during that time period. All area farmers can dispose of the agriculture plastics listed above free of charge at the landfill, which is located at W2002 County SS, Brodhead WI.

Educating Future Leaders at Blackhawk

Blackhawk Technical College’s Career and Professional Development department will hold its Fall Leadership Conference on Saturday, November 7, 2015, an open to the public event that will include three workshops aimed at helping participants enhance their leadership and problem solving skills. 
Amy Climer, a Madison based business consultant at Climer Consulting, will make the keynote address entitled, “Your Creative Muscle: Use It or Lose It.’’ Climer also will direct a workshop on understanding the variety of social styles on display in the workplace.
