Green County Steer Weigh-In

The annual Green County Steer Weigh-In will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Equity Livestock, located south of Monroe, from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. In case of inclement weather, the snow date will be Saturday, January 9. An announcement will be made over WEKZ radio prior to 8:00 a.m. on the morning of January 2nd if the weigh-in will be re-scheduled due to inclement weather.

UW-Extension Dairy Management Seminar

The Green County Milk Quality Council, in cooperation with UW-Extension, will be sponsoring its 28th Annual Green County Dairy Management Seminar on Thursday, January 7, 2016. The seminar will run from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and will be held at the Green County UW-Extension Office, 2841 6th Street, Monroe.

CRP Informational Meetings Planned

The Green County Farm Service Agency (FSA) Office is sponsoring two informational meetings on evaluating the options available to landowners and operators under the 2014 Farm Bill Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). The meetings will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, starting at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., in the Lower Level Multi-Purpose Rooms of the Green County Justice Center located at 2841 6th Street, in Monroe.

Avalanche Co-op Hopes to Regroup After Holiday Break

In Monday night’s rematch against the DeForest Norskies on December 21st, Monroe’s Avalanche Co-op team couldn’t get the win. They lost, DeForest 7, Monroe 1.
Head Coach Josh Smith commented, “Overall, this was a tough one. We just didn’t play to our ability tonight and DeForest capitalized on our mistakes. It didn’t help that Jared Cline left the game after the first period with a suspected injury.  At this point we have plenty of things to work on, and hope this upcoming break allows us to regroup and start fresh.”

Knights of Columbus Announce 2016 Free Throw Winners

Six boys and five girls from the Belleville area, ages 9 to 14, were named local champions of the 2016 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship and have earned the right to compete at the district level.
Our local Council #6630 sponsored the competition in the local gyms. All youngsters, ages 9 to 14, were eligible to participate.
The nine-year-old girls champion is Lindsy Schadewalt, Lindsey Kittleson came in second and Megan stone placed third.

Sugar River Grapplers Lose to Beloit Turner

On December 19th, the Raiders participated in the Richland Center Invitational.
Max Gerner took 7th Place at 120 lbs and scored 8 points. John Chenoweth took 5th Place at 126 lbs and scored 21 points. Tyler Varney took 8th Place at 145 lbs and scored 5 points. Trent Siegenthaler took 6th Place at 195 lbs and scored 16 points. Daniel Enloe took 7th Place at 220 lbs and scored 5 points. Jonah Thompson took 6th Place at 285 lbs and scored 16 points.

PeeWee A Shuts Out Dodgeville

Back from an injury sustained early in the season, Alyssa Knauf opened the game scoring on a pass from Tessa Janecke 1:06 into the game on December 27, vs. Dodgeville Ice Wolves PeeWee A. Hayden Roth scored with :05 left of the first period, assisted by Tessa Janecke.
The Avalanche continued to dominate, scoring three goals in the second period with goals by Alyssa Knauf, Hayden Roth, and Tessa Janecke.  Earning assists were Tessa Janecke for a playmaker and Roman Bauer.

Lady Wildcats Beat Blue Devils

The Belleville girls basketball team hosted Lodi on Tuesday, December 22nd. Coach Kerry Steinagel had this to say, “We started out the game with a 18-9 lead in the first half, with great passing and hitting some timely shots. We were a little suspect on defense in the first half as we had a couple of girls get into foul trouble. The half ended with the game being close.” Belleville was up by just 6 points at the half, 26 to Lodi’s 20.

Knights Lose to Lakeside Lutheran

On December 22nd, the New Glarus boys basketball team headed to Lake Mills to take on the Lakeside Lutheran Warriors.
Half-time had Lakeside ahead, 48 to 29.
New Glarus scored 36 points in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to pull out the win. The final score was Lakeside Lutheran 100, New Glarus 65.
Austin Schlueter and Cullen Brooks led the team with 11 points each. Zach Feller contributed 10, and Jaden Kreklow put 9 on the board.
