Feel Good About Giving Back by Donating Blood

Many people want to give back to the community, but may not have a lot of time to volunteer. The American Red Cross reminds eligible individuals that in only about an hour, volunteer blood donors can help save lives and feel instant grat
The Monticello Community Blood Drive will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Zwingli United Church of Christ, 416 E. Lake Avenue, Monticello.

Belleville Area EMS Pork Chop Dinner

Belleville Area EMS is again sponsoring their Pork Chop Dinner. This year’s event will be held on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18, 2017, at the EMS Building, 480 River Street in Belleville. Handicapped parking is available at the EMS building and other parking is available at Federal Industries and Landmark Ag Services. They will be serving from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The cost of the dinner is $10.00 (dine-in or carry-out).

The Belleville Kiwanis Club has selected Trevor Thole and Eliza Woods to attend the World Affairs Seminar at Carroll University.  Along with students from many counties, they will exchange ideas and examine Education and Social Justice worldwide.

LSRWA launches the next leg of the ^Sugar River Corps of Recovery^" Expedition"

Join ecologists, nature lovers, canoeists and kayakers on Saturday, June 17, as they paddle and explore an eight-mile section of the Sugar River, from Attica to Albany. This family-friendly expedition continues the journey members of Lower Sugar River Watershed Association initiated in 2015.

American Cancer Society to Paint Green County Purple for Relay For Life

The American Cancer Society is seeking businesses and organizations to get involved in the Relay For Life movement by displaying purple ribbons and other decorations from June 17 – 24, 2017. “Paint Our Town Purple” is a time to celebrate the lives of cancer survivors, and to have some fun with the color purple to bring attention to the American Cancer Society’s many programs and services in our community. Purple is the signature color of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life program, which represents all cancers.

Dairy Day Awards Nominees Needed

The Green County Ag Chest is looking for nominations for the Dairy Day Awards.  The contest is open to any AG/Business Women or Couple who are an active part of any operation or business. The contest is open to anyone who lives and/or works in Green County, as well as having buildings located in the school districts or villages in Green County.
There are three different categories: Ag/Business Woman under the age of 30; Ag/Business Woman over the age of 30; and Oldest Active Farm Couple.

How Safe is Your Drinking Water?

Dear Editor,
According to the University of Wisconsin Center for Watershed Science and Education, 20-25% of private wells in Green County are contaminated with bacteria and 40-50% with the pesticide atrazine. The average nitrate concentration in Green County wells is 5-10 parts per million, with 10 ppm being the allowable safe limit.
