Fond Farewell for Former Firefighter

On Saturday, October 5, 2019, Herman Pfund was laid to rest. Members of the New Glarus Fire Department, along with the Fitchburg Fire Department Honor Guard, paid tribute to Pfund with a salute and a procession that escorted him to the cemetery on Hwy 92. Pfund's last ride was in an antique fire truck. He had been a member of Fitchburg Fire Department and was the department's first chief. He had also been a member of the New Glarus Fire Department for many years, and until recently he could often be found making coffee and cinnamon rolls for firefighters out on calls.

Sugar River Euchre

With the 89th Sugar River Euchre League in full gear, I think it only fitting that we pay tribute to one of the League’s greatest Euchre players of all time, Benny Goebler. As League Secretary for approximately 50 years, he was instrumental in keeping the league running smoothly. He recorded individual weekly scores, wrote news articles, ran the winter and spring tournaments and kept a well-documented history of the league. He also enjoyed sending out those famous skunk cards. Thank you for all you did Benny, we will miss you.
