Free Little Pantry in New Glarus

A Little Free Pantry is now available in New Glarus. It can be used to tide someone over with a few food or personal care items until a larger amount of needed goods can be secured. It is small and does not require identifications or applications for use. It is available all the time to anyone.
The Little Free Pantry is located at 506 12th Avenue. It stands at the bottom of the driveway leading out of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.

The Village of Monticello Named October Chamber Featured Business

The Monticello Village Hall has undergone many changes this past year, including leadership under the new Village President Leaora Miller. With recent vacancy of the Village Clerk position, Leaora and Sharon Ackerman teamed up to keep Village Hall operating. In August they welcomed Ann Goers to the team as the new Village Clerk/Treasurer to fill that role. Leaora, Sharon, and the Village Board would like to thank the citizens for their patience and understanding during this transition.

World-Famous Harlem Wizards Come to Belleville!

On September 25th, the Harlem Wizards brought their high-flying and circus-dribbling act to Belleville in order to raise money for the Belleville PTO. The show, which was sponsored by the Belleville PTO, had the Wizards taking on an assortment of School District of Belleville staff members, with all proceeds going back to the PTO.
In front of a packed house at the BHS Gym, the Wizards showed off their incredible basketball skills, as well as comedic chops, during some very funny in-game skits. In the end, the Wizards defeated the staff by 12 points.

Lightning Strike Causes House Fire

A lighting strike started a fire in the walls of a house in the 100 block of Albert Circle, in the Village of Belleville. Three people and three cats were able to get out safely, there were no reported injuries to the occupants or fire personnel. The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damages. The homeowners will be displaced until repairs can be made. The Belleville Fire Department was assisted on scene by Verona, New Glarus and Fitchburg Fire Departments and scene support was provided by Belleville Police and Belleville EMS.

Lady Wildcats Defeat Lady Knights

On September 24th, Belleville hosted the New Glarus volleyball team, winning in three, 25-19, 26-24, 25-16.
For Belleville, Ava Foley had 13 kills, 4 aces and 14 digs. Erin Kittleson had 2 blocks and 30 assists. Callie Smith had 4 blocks, Jenna Schrader had 6 kills and Mel Humke had 10 digs.
For New Glarus, Lola Gillaspie had 7 kills and 3 aces, Lily Himmelmann had 5 kills and 3 blocks and Grace Nommensen had 17 assists.
No information from Belleville's Badger Invite were available by press time.

Monroe-New Glarus Swim Team Competes at Edgewood

The Monroe-New Glarus swim team competed at Edgewood on September 24th. The JV team won, 81-37, while the Varsity team lost 64-106.
“The team had a solid meet against a very strong competitor. We are right on track for where we would like to be at this point,” said Coach Kendra Kalvin. “Strong swims included Elsa Schaefer breaking a JV record in the 100 Breaststroke. Karley Michels went a personal best in Meters in the 100 Breast and Morgan Erstad had an impressive race in the 200 Free.”

Ponies Beat Comets

The Monticello Ponies volleyball team played at Albany on September 24th, winning it in three, 25-9, 25-22, 25-16.
Ellie Gustafson had 16 kills, 2 blocks and 3 aces. Emily Grant had 8 kills, Maggie Bak had 2 blocks, Sarah Blumer had 3 aces, Alexa Siegenthaler had 30 assists and Miah Brokopp had 18 digs.
Results from the match at Barneveld on September 26th weren’t available by press time.
The Ponies play October 3rd at Juda, and then host Pecatonica on October 8th and Black Hawk on October 10th.

Sugar River Euchre League's 89th Season to Begin October 3rd

The Sugar River Euchre League will begin its 89th season on Thursday, October 3, 2019, with eight teams seeking revenge over last year’s Champions, the Norsk Cowboys, and a shot at being crowned this season’s top dealers.
A captain’s meeting was held on September 19th at Norsk Golf Club to kick-off the season. An election of officers was held, with Jerome Krantz being voted in as League President, Tom Magnuson as Treasurer and Stan Hook as Secretary once again. Other league business included the approval of this year’s schedule and bylaws.

The Belleville Wildcat Football team was beaten on Friday night for only the second time this season. The defeat this time coming at the hands of a very determined Marshall Cardinal team, 13-7.

Knights Lose to Blue Jays

The NGM Football team was hoping to win back to back games as they played the Cambridge Blue Jays for Homecoming. However, the reigning champions of the Capitol South would have none of it. Despite the rainy weather and a lightning delay, the Blue Jays were firing on all cylinders.
