Wildcats Cross Country Team Competes at Midwest Invite

The Wildcats were in Janesville Saturday for the Midwest Invite. This is a very large race, with over 2,000 registered runners. They also had a format change to avoid overlap with races. This was well received by both coaches and athletes.
Our top four boys in the Blue Division were sophomores Jordan Wilder and Matthew Loshaw and seniors Sean Campbell and Julian Fullbright. Our White Division boys were Alan Woller, Jacob Kean, Carson Heller, James Gustafson, Brandon Graves, Zachary Thole, Will Gobel and Cole Monroe.

A Portion of 2nd Street Closed for Repair

Construction on 2nd Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues began on September 30, 2019. According to the Village's website, the estimated completion date is October 18, 2019. Village offices, including the Utility, Library and Police Department, will be open normal hours during the project.

Meadow Valley School Reunion to be Held on October 11, 2019

Attention all who attended Meadow Valley School: A reunion/gathering is planned at the school on Friday, October 11, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. As Bob Gmur said, “After we are gone, no one will have any memory of this (country school.)”
Mrs. Darlene Lancaster of Monroe plans to be there. She taught at Meadow Valley the last year the school was open, from 1961-62.
Also present will be Caryl Wheeler Owen, former Technical Director for Wisconsin Public Radio’s ‘To the Best of Our Knowledge’ and ‘Wisconsin Life.’ Any participation in any interview is completely voluntary.

New Glarus Library Capital Campaign Receives Challenge Grant

The Schlecht Family Foundation has generously provided a challenge grant to the New Glarus community for the new library in the amount of $15,000. The Schlecht Family Foundation will match donations up to that amount received by December 31, 2019.
“It’s meaningful for our family foundation to give back to the community of New Glarus, whose many residents have been part of the growth of Duluth Trading Company over the years,” said Steve Schlecht, founder of Duluth Trading Company.

Read With a Firefighter

In honor of Fire Prevention Week, the New Glarus Public Library and New Glarus Fire Department are teaming up to present a special Saturday Storytime at the Fire Station on Saturday, October 12, 2019, at 10:30 a.m.
Families are invited to tour the station and listen to firefighters read their favorite books. Snacks are provided and kids are welcome to climb into the fire trucks and explore. The library will have books on display, with a mobile checkout station so you can take books home.

Save Lives in Just One Hour

Many people want to give back to the community but may not have a lot of time to volunteer. In only about an hour, volunteer blood donors can help save lives and feel instant gratification.
The community is invited to give back and help save lives by donating blood on Friday, October 11, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Zwingli United Church of Christ, 416 E. Lake Avenue, Monticello.

What's Happening With Washington Center 4-H Club

This year, Washington Center 4-H Club did many activities that included having fun, learning new things, and doing service projects for the community. During a few monthly meetings we had guest speakers. One month a guest speaker from Associated Bank educated us about finances and how to save money. We also had an officer from the Monticello Police Department talk about social media safety, and how to use it appropriately.

The Wisconsin Pork Association announces scholarships available to high school seniors and college students. Students with sincere interest in the swine industry are encouraged to apply for these scholarships.

The Wisconsin Pork Association scholarship is open to Wisconsin high school seniors with a sincere interest in the swine industry. One $500 scholarship and one $400 scholarship will be awarded.
