Thoemke Breaks Down Cost of Library

Dear Editor,
If you live in the village of New Glarus, the New Glarus Library Board wants your money. Village taxpayers are already on the hook for $1 million in borrowing and another $40,000 in cash, if the proposed library building project moves forward. Now the Library Board is asking the Village Board for the following additional financial commitments:
1. A 17.7% increase in annual funding from the 2020 Village budget, for the operation of the CURRENT library facility.
2. An additional $500,000 in borrowing toward the cost of a new library facility.

Landmark Has a Wish for Next Year's Anniversary

Dear Editor,
My wish for next year’s 175th anniversary of New Glarus is to have the dead trees and overgrown brush cleaned up along the highway 69 entrance. But I’m not sure who can make this happen; does it belong to the DNR (bike path) or can the village board get it done?
Julie Landmark,
New Glarus

Library Building Project Moving Forward

This summer, the New Glarus Village Board made two key decisions that will allow the library building project to proceed. First, unanimous approval of the west side location, next to the Swiss Center of North America; and second, a commitment to borrow $1 million for the project. These actions are setting in motion the final push to raise funds needed to build a library that will serve New Glarus today, and meet the future needs of this community.
