JEAN ANN UPDIKE

Jean Ann Updike, age 67 of Monticello, died on Friday, September 11, 2020, at the Monroe Clinic Hospice Home. Jean was born on April 2, 1953, in Monroe, the daughter of Francis L. and Mary E. (Broge) Updike.
She graduated from Argyle High School and was employed for many years in housekeeping at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home. Jean enjoyed traveling, watching sports (especially the Badgers), and attending her niece's and nephew's sporting events. Jean also liked to read the newspaper and keep up on Monticello community events.

<strong>Miss Barnes To Tell Lions Of European Conditions</strong>
Miss Flavel Barnes will speak to the Lions and their Ladies at the first meeting of the fiscal year, Sept. 20th at the Wm. Tell Hotel.
She is the only woman to motor from Finland to South Africa during the war years, 1939-42. Traveled through twenty-six countries of Europe, Asia and Africa in a four cylinder car which had a Yugoslav license.

Green County COVID-19 Community Testing Sites

Green County Public Health is announcing that beginning on September 9, 2020, Green County will have three COVID-19 community testing sites.
The Monroe testing sites will operate on Wednesdays, from 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., at the National Guard Armory at 1130 30th Street.
Testing sites in New Glarus, at the Swiss Center of North America, 507 Durst Road, and Brodhead, at the former Brodhead Fitness Center, 804 23rd Street, will be operational on alternating Mondays from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Monticello Lions Club Holds Drive Up Pancake Breakfast

On Saturday, September 12, 2020, the Monticello Lions held a Drive Up Pancake Breakfast.
The Lions served nearly 500 people, and even ran out of pancakes. People could also order cheese curds, which were a big hit.
Gary Wirth won the 50/50 raffle with $265.00 his half. The Lions Club wanted to thank everyone who supported them, with a special thank you to Kenny Gempeler for all his service.

WDVA Announces Grant Application Period Open for Nonprofits that Serve Veterans

Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) Secretary Mary Kolar has announced that applications are now being accepted for two grants available to Wisconsin organizations that serve Veterans and their families. Applications for both the WDVA Non-Profit Grant and the WDVA Entrepreneurship Grant will be accepted through Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at 4:00 p.m.

Albertson Memorial Library to Hold Fall Silent Auction

The Albertson Memorial Library Board and staff are preparing for our 13th Annual Fall Silent Auction. This has been a challenging year for all of us. The library has had to change our service structure, offering more online services, offering individual materials selection for patrons who cannot enter the building, as well as adding measures for cleaning for the health and safety of both our staff and our patrons.

Discover 4-H This Fall!

With the beginning of a new school year comes the beginning of a new 4-H year, and this year, Green County 4-H is making it easier than ever for families to experience the fun of 4-H. Through the Discover 4-H program, families with children in Kindergarten through 5th grade can join a virtual 4-H club which will meet once a week for six weeks on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m., from October 8 through November 12. Each club meeting, held via Zoom, will last about 30-60 minutes and will include a hands-on project activity that will be led by a local 4-H Educator.
