Dear Editor,
It’s unbelievable how the Republicans – at the national and state level – are trying to rewrite history when it comes to how they have handled the COVID-19 situation. If you look at almost any other country you can see it didn’t have to be this way. The United States is becoming the laughing stock of the world.

LaBarre Grateful for Community Participation

Dear Editor,
First I gratefully thank everyone who came to participate and attend the meeting on Thursday. When dilemmas about citizen action occur, we need to get as much public input as possible. A conservative estimate would be about 50 people attending and at least a dozen but probably not more than 20 voicing their opinion, some of whom were not Village citizens. This brings up a very important point.

Robert W. Maurer, G. M. 3/c, writes that he is now in Tokyo Bay on board the Ancon. Also aboard are 65-75 war correspondents, including one from the Milwaukee Journal. Their ship is being used as headquarters for radio and press news service. Near it are the Battleship Iowa, South Dakota and the Missouri, several English ships and many destroyers.
Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Klassy, on Monday, had a cablegram from their daughter, Lieut. Irma Klassy, of the Army Nurse Corps, saying she had arrived at Manila.

NOAH J. HERSHBERGER

Noah J. Hershberger, age 67 of Monticello, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020, at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on June 23, 1953, the son of Eli and Elizabeth (Yoder) Hershberger.
Noah grew up in Plain City, OH, until his family moved to the New Glarus area. He married Sandy Steiner and they had four children together. Noah worked for Karlen Ford in Monticello and later the Village of Monticello Public Works Department. He also mowed lawns for many years around Monticello.

Robert J. Gehin, age 60, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 31, 2020, at UW Hospital in Madison. He was born on October 22, 1959, in Madison, the son of Leo and Alma (Waefler) Gehin.

Mark Eisenmann, 58, of Lake Mills, Wisconsin, passed away on August 31, 2020, after an extended illness. Mark was born on October 9,1961, in Belleville, Illinois, to Roy and Mary Eisenmann.

New Glarus Hardware Donates Health and Safety Kits

New Glarus Hardware, in partnership with the True Value Foundation, is providing free health and safety kits to New Glarus, Belleville, Monticello, and Pecatonica Schools through the newly created Educational Heroes Safety Campaign.
To ensure the health and safety of students, teachers, administrators and staff at their local school, New Glarus Hardware is donating kits comprised of hand sanitizer, KN-95 masks and hand soap.

New Glarus Area EMS to Hold Patriot Day Blood Drive

The New Glarus Area EMS Patriot Day Blood Drive will be held at the New Glarus Area EMS building, 401 3rd Street, on Saturday, September 5, 2020, from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. The blood drive is sponsored by the New Glarus Area EMS.
Get a pair of Red Cross branded socks while supplies last!

New Glarus Youth Committee Presents Scholarships

In early August, representatives from the New Glarus Youth Committee were able to briefly meet with our scholarship recipients at the Village Park to give their scholarships to them. We are honored to contribute to furthering their education and excited to see where future opportunities will take them.
