Avalanche Wins over La Follette

The Monroe Avalanche Co-op Hockey team traveled to Mandt Hockey Arena in Stoughton on January 21st to take on La Follette. Colby Smith scored the first goal in the first period, followed by a goal by La Follette’s Sam Hull, assisted by Nik Brendel. Tyler Johnson, assisted by Cade Martin, scored on a power play near the end of the first to bring the Avalanche up by one goal.

SR Youth Wrestlers Take the Mat in Monroe and Brodhead

On Sunday, January 24, 18 SR youth wrestlers headed to the Monroe Mat Rat tournament with an additional 400+ wrestlers. Five of them were awarded individual Championships and 18 wrestlers with pins.  It was a great tournament and our wrestlers faced some good competition.

Knights Fall to Cardinals

The New Glarus boys basketball team hosted the 3-0 Marshall Cardinals on January 21st, hoping to stay undefeated in the Capitol South. The Knights were down by ten at the half, 33-23.
Marshall outscored New Glarus by only six points in the second half and took the win, with a final score of Marshall 75, New Glarus 59.

Monticello Loses to Albany and Blackhawk

The lead was back and forth throughout the first half of the game against the Comets on January 19th, and the Ponies were only behind by 5 points going into halftime. Albany came out of the locker room and scored the first 4 points of the second half and Monticello never got any closer than 7 points the rest of the game. The final score was Albany 65, Monticello 50.

Belleville Girls Lose Three Road Games

“This game was a tale of two halves. The first half we did very well as we shot the ball well and transitioned very well. We were attacking the gaps and the scoring was spread out. We really had the momentum going our way. We were feeling pretty good about the way things were going,” said Coach Steinagel about the game at Evansville on January 18th. The girls led going into half-time, Belleville 23, Evansville 17.

Village Of New Glarus Receives Loan

The Board of Commissioners of Public Lands (BCPL) approved a State Trust Fund Loan totaling $450,000 to the village of New Glarus to finance economic development projects.
The Board approved loans totaling nearly $2.4 million at a recent meeting.  They include: 
· City of Algoma, Kewaunee County/Renovate long-term care facility/$335,764
· City of Marshfield, Marathon and Wood Counties/Finance fairground land purchase/$173,500
· City of Marshfield, Marathon and Wood Counties/ Finance TID #5 economic development program/ $405,000

New Glarus Jr FCCLA Fundraiser

Please come support the Jr FCCLA members and help them raise money for the Green County Humane Society on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., at Culver’s of New Glarus.
Stop by and have a meal, or buy a couple of pints of ice cream. All money raised will go to the Green County Humane Society. Remember, the animals are counting on you!

Historical Preservation Committee Update

In 2015, the New Glarus Historic Preservation Commission was fortunate to receive a grant through the Wisconsin Historical Society to hire Carol Cartwright, Historic Preservation Consultant, to perform an Architectural and Historical Survey of the Village of New Glarus.  The goal of the survey, funded by the National Park Service, was to photograph and research the architecture of the Village in order to identify structures and districts that are eligible for the National Registry of Historic Places.
