Green County Barn Inventory Informational Meeting

The Green County Historical Society will begin an inventory of Green County barns in 2016, and will be hosting an informational meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, at Albertson Memorial Library in Albany. 
The meeting will explain the purpose of the inventory, which is to preserve Green County’s agricultural history. Program presenters may show examples of various first- and second-generation Green County barns that replaced the original barns as the dairy business succeeded.

Avalanche Drops Two

The Avalanche thought they were going to be preparing for the game against Stoughton on January 7th, but instead they played a surprise game in Oregon on Tuesday, January 5th.
“Tonight was a weird one. The game wasn’t on our schedule, so we had to scramble last minute to get to Oregon on time so we were short two players (a starter, Colby Smith, and Evan Byrnes),” explains Coach Josh Smith.

Youth Wrestling Team Does Well in Oregon and Baraboo Tournaments

On Saturday, January 9, 19 SR youth wrestlers traveled to Oregon for their Panther tournament.  As a team, they came home with 3rd place!  So proud of all of the boys.  They crowned six individual Champions and racked up 15 pins!  Nice going.

Bantam A Takes Third in Tourney

The Avalanche Bantam A team traveled to Baldwin to take part in the Blackhawk Hockey Bantam A Tournament January 10-11. The opposing teams provided the Avalanche tough competition.
The first game, the Avalanche fell to Sauk Prairie Flyers 5-1, with Hayden Roth scoring the lone goal, assisted by Anika Einbeck and Tessa Janecke.

Belleville Girls Lose to Cambridge

The Lady Wildcats headed to Cambridge on January 5th. Coach Kerry Steinagel said, “This game was hard fought by both teams. Cambridge came out strong, with a 9-0 lead to start the game. After a few minutes our nerves final settled down and we started playing defense. The girl’s defense really picked up and we were more patient on offense. We took a 22-15 lead late in the first half.”
Belleville was up at the half over the Bluejays, 22-18.

New Glarus Girls Topple Heights and Waterloo

In the conference opener against Wisconsin Heights on Tuesday, January 5th, Heights jumped out to an early lead in the first half and remained in control throughout. The half-time score was Wisconsin Heights 29, New Glarus 21.

Ponies Lose at Argyle and Juda

The first half of Monticello’s game at Argyle was a close one on Tuesday, January 5th. The boys went on an 8-0 run to close the half, with the last points coming from a 3-point shot by Braden Gafner with one second left on the clock. Monticello was ahead by 2 points at half-time, 26-24.
The second half saw the Comets go on an 18-4 run that put them ahead by 12, and the Ponies never recovered. The final score of the game was Argyle 55, Monticello 39.

Child Development Days in New Glarus

The New Glarus School District will be holding its 19th annual Child Development Days.
Child Development Days is a free event designed for families in our school district with children ages 6 months to 4 years. Families are provided with information about their child’s development, are able to visit a community resource room, and have an opportunity to interact with other parents. Over the years, hundreds of families have participated in this wonderful community event.

Friends of the New Glarus Public Library 4th Annual Trivia Night

The Friends of the New Glarus Public Library’s 4th Annual Trivia Night is on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. There will be trophies for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams. Plus all the winners’ accolades will be in the newspaper and posted on social media.
For the second consecutive year, the event will be held at Barnaby’s Monticello House, 149 N. Main Street, Monticello.
Our Trivia Masters will be The Flying Zupan Brothers and they will include one round of questions from the movie “The Wizard Of Oz”!
