Wisconsin DFI to Begin Issuing Apostilles, Authentications

The Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) will begin issuing apostilles and authentications – certificates needed to verify a document for use in a foreign country – effective today. That service currently is available through the Wisconsin Secretary of State’s office.

The 2016 Gift of Community Celebration will be held on Saturday, February 20, at Edelweiss Country Club. What would our community be without our valuable volunteers? This event recognizes and honors the countless volunteers who do so much to make New Glarus the exciting community it is. The event includes a Silent Auction, Volunteer Recognition and a “Roast” of the Volunteer of the Year!

Ponies Lose Two at Cambridge Tournament

The Monticello Ponies boys basketball team headed to the Cambridge Holiday Tournament on December 28-29.
Game one was against Milwaukee School of Languages. MSOL had a 27-3 lead in the first 10:45 of play in the first half. The half-time score was 41-18.
The Ponies were only outscored 41-40 for the rest of the game, but lost with a final score of MSOL 68, Monticello 43.
Jon Errthum scored 16 points for Monticello, and Zach Price scored 11 points. Logan Marty had nine rebounds and Jon Errthum had six rebounds.

Wrestlers Compete in 2015 Lourdes Academy OTW Classic

The Sugar River Wrestlers headed to Oshkosh to participate in the 2015 Lourdes Academy OTW Classic on December 29-30.
Justin Knoebl (113 lbs) won in the first round over Dylan Hughes, Wautoma/Wild Rose. He lost in the second round to Joey Graham, Wilmot Union. Round three was won due to forfeit. In round four, Knoebl won over Jordan Mielke, Sheboygan Falls. Knoebl lost round five to Brandon Lucht, Antigo. Knoebl scored 10 team points and is 4-6.

Avalanche Scoreless Against Edgewood

The Monroe Avalanche Co-op hockey team took on the Madison Edgewood Crusaders at home on Tuesday, December 29th.
“We knew this one was going to be another rough game. Not having practice yesterday due to weather didn’t help either. Now we are through the tough stretch of games and can focus on our next game next Thursday against Stoughton,” commented Coach Josh Smith.
The Avalanche lost the game, 0-14. They head to Stoughton on January 7th to face the Vikings, who are 7-6 in the Badger South.

Belleville Boys Win Over Parkview

The Belleville boys basketball team traveled to Parkview on Tuesday, December 29th. Down by two at half-time, they pulled out the win by outscoring their opponents in the second half.
The final score was Belleville 63, Parkview 56.
Daniel Meier put 29 points on the board for the Wildcats. Brock Kelly scored 16 points and Drew Shrader added 7.
Belleville faced Lakeside Lutheran at home on January 5th, and will host New Glarus on Parent's Night on January 7th. The Wildcats are 2-3 in the Capitol South.

Youth Wrestling Update

Several youth wrestlers took to the mats over the holiday break.  Three went to Darlington on Saturday the 2nd, and nine went to Waunakee on Sunday, January 3rd.  Here are their stats with placing, wins, losses, and pins:  Darlington-Cayson Helwig, 1st, 2-0-2; Garrett Pauli, 2nd, 1-1-1; Justin Pauli, 3rd ,1-2-1.  Nice job boys!

Dodgeville Bests New Glarus

On Tuesday, December 29th, the New Glarus girls basketball team traveled to Dodgeville to face the Dodgers. At half-time, the Lady Knights were down 17 points, 35-18. Despite outscoring Dodgeville in the second half, the girls lost the game. The final score was Dodgeville 60, New Glarus 45.
Head Coach Kim Burton commented, “The Knights had a cold night of shooting as they were just 22% from the floor.  Despite having a poor shooting night, the girls never game up and continued to hustle throughout the entire game.”

New Glarus Suffers Tough Loss to Monroe in OT

The New Glarus boys basketball team traveled south to Monroe to face the Cheesemakers on Tuesday, December 29th. The Knights had a 13-point lead over Monroe at half-time after making nine 3-pointers, 37-24.
With a few minutes left to go in the game, Monroe took over the lead. The Knights tied it up and during the last few seconds in regulation took a shot to win but missed. The game went into overtime, but Monroe took the lead right away and never gave it up.
