^Mysteries of the Driftless^" Documentary"

Join us for a free film at Belleville Public Library on Wednesday, February 17, at 6:30 p.m.
<i>Mysteries of the Driftless</i> is documentary that explores our area’s unique pre-Ice Age landforms, wildlife species, and Native American effigy mounds that survived the glacial scouring that scraped away at surrounding areas. The film follows a team of explorers and scientists as they kayak down deeply-cut valleys and climb rocky bluffs to expose the science and threats particular to this “island of land,” and to inspire viewers to discover more.

Valentine's Day Euchre

The First United Church of Christ in Belleville is hosting a Valentine’s Day Euchre Card Party on Sunday, February 14, 2016, at 1:00 p.m.
The cost to attend is $5.00 per person. There will be prizes and a luncheon following the card party.
The First United Church of Christ is located at 130 E. Church Street in Belleville.

Lee Norman Potratz, age 64 of Belleville, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. He was born June 8, 1951, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, to his parents, Eldon and Carol (O'Neil) Potratz.

CAROL D. KOCH

Carol D. Koch, age 83 of Monticello, died Saturday, January 30, 2016, at her home. She was born on December 19, 1932, in rural Green County, the daughter of George and Frances (Stubbe) Ellefson.
She attended a rural school. Carol married Elwood R. Koch on May 7, 1950, in Monroe. Carol farmed with her husband on the family farm her entire life. She enjoyed bowling, sewing and knitting, flowers and gardening, and jig saw puzzles. Carol loved to cook, and one of her biggest joys was cooking for family.

Kurt Douglas Duerst, age 53, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2016. He was born on August 26, 1962, at the Edgerton Memorial Hospital in Edgerton, WI, to his parents, Harlen and Dawn (Geske) Duerst.
Kurt graduated from New Glarus High School in 1980 and then farmed and worked at Nicolet Instruments and Gilson’s.

Green County Sheriff Warns of IRS Phone Scam

Green County dispatchers have received dozens of calls from citizens reporting automated IRS scam phone messages, demanding payment for overdue taxes. The message instructs the party to call a phone number immediately or risk legal consequences. This is not a new telephone scam tactic, it has been used for years, and particularly during tax season when most citizens are preparing their annual returns.

Wisconsin Voters Need a Photo ID to Vote

In March 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for enforcement of Wisconsin’s 2011 voter ID law. This requires all voters to present an acceptable photo ID at the polls in the Spring Primary on February 16, 2016.

Green County Piano Teachers Donate to Local Libraries

The Green County Piano Teachers presented checks to each of the five Green County Libraries and the Monroe Arts Center – Children’s Art Gallery.
The money was earned through pledges by Green County piano students for performing at the Piano Play-A-Thon in December, when 135 students entertained shoppers at the Monroe ShopKo. The Play-A-Thon generated $2,800.
In addition to these donations, a portion of the funds will be used to support the 2016 ensemble recital that will be performed by Green County piano students in November.
