Local Tornado Spotter Classes to be Held in Monroe and Blanchardville

Green County Emergency Management announces that two local tornado spotters classes will be held soon. On Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at 12:30 p.m., a Basic Tornado Spotter Class will be held at the Monroe Fire Station, 1601 W. 17th Street. At 6:30 p.m., another basic spotter class will be held at the Blanchardville Fire Department, 208 Mason Street. These classes, which are free, run about two hours and they are open to all first responders as well as the general public.

Sugar River Youth Wrestlers Verona Results

Twelve Sugar River youth wrestlers were in Verona this past Sunday, March 7th.  Almost 500 wrestlers competed from all over the state!  Most of the boys had eight-man brackets.
Sugar River crowned two champions in Trei Udelhoven and Aiden Hatleberg. Way to go!

Belleville/Evansville Co-op Champions

The Belleville/Evansville Co-op Basketball team recently competed at the Wisconsin Basketball Association's State Tournament in the Division 2 Bracket. Coach Paul Syse led the Co-op Team over larger schools from the northern part of the state including, Portage, La Crosse Central, Jefferson and Sun Prairie.
Coach Syse's Belleville/Evansville Co-op team won the Championship over Green Bay Notre Dame, 48-39. The boys celebrated with a pizza party and swimming party.

Comets Dash the Ponies Playoff Dreams

The road to the state tournament ended for the Monticello Ponies at the hands of the Albany Comets on March 1st.
Playing in Albany for the WIAA Regional Quarterfinal, the Ponies were only trailing by three points early in the first half. The Comets then went on a 29-4 run, and by half-time the score was Albany 39, Monticello 11.
The Ponies struggled in the second half and never got closer than 23 points, despite the fact that Albany only outscored them by 2 points for the half. The final score of the game was Albany 71, Monticello 41.

Wrestling Awards

John Chenoweth was awarded Hardest Worker and Most Valuable Wrestler and Tanner Jelle was awarded Most Improved recently. Chenoweth and Jelle are members of the 2015-2016 Sugar River Raiders wrestling team.

New Glarus High School to Present ^The Drowsy Chaperone^"

This year's New Glarus High School musical is <i>The Drowsy Chaperone</i>, which will be presented March 18-20.
Tickets will go on sale for the general public on Thursday, March 10, in the New Glarus High School office during regular office hours. This will be the 20th Musical performance on this high school stage, come see our talented students continue the tradition of excellence. Feel Good About Giving Back by Donating Blood

Many people want to give back to the community, but may not have a lot of time to volunteer. The American Red Cross reminds eligible individuals that in only about an hour, volunteer blood donors can help save lives and feel instant gratification.
Blood is a perishable product that can only come from generous volunteers. By donating blood, individuals can make a difference in the lives of patients in their community and throughout the nation.

Scherenschnitte Classes

Linda Schiesser taught the art of Scherenschnitte, or scissor cutting, to two more groups in February, at the Swiss Center of North America in New Glarus. Participants learned how to create several shapes and had a wonderful time learning this traditional Swiss art.

Child Development Day in Monticello

All children who will be 3 or 4 before September 1, 2016, are invited to participate in Child Development Day on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, from 12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. This will be held in the 4K classroom at Monticello Elementary School. The snow date will be Wednesday, April 20.
