Douglas Nominated to Receive Legacy Award

Each year Wisconsin's tourism industry honors individuals and organizations for their commitment to excellence, achievements, dedication and leadership, which have an impact on Wisconsin's travel and hospitality industry. Green County Welcome Center and National Historic Cheesemaking Center Executive Director, Donna Douglas, was among five individuals nominated to receive the Legacy Award.

DAR Good Citizen Awards Presented

The Colonel Benjamin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Tuesday, April 12th, at Pizza Hut in Monroe to celebrate the Good Citizen students.  
The DAR Good Citizen program encourages and rewards the highest qualities of good citizenship among high school seniors: dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.
Jacquelyn Mosely, from Darlington High School, won the essay contest for the local chapter and placed third in the state contest.  She read her essay to the group.

Transportation Available to Monroe Summer Farmer's Market

The Aging & Disability Resource Center is happy to announce that we are adjusting shuttle hours to make transportation to the Monroe Summer Farmer’s Market available for residents of Belleville, Monticello and New Glarus on Wednesdays, starting May 11th.

Ponies Slay Vikings

The Ponies softball team faced Potosi on April 7th, but lost in five innings, 11-0.
Jessie Garrison went 2-3, and Lexi Graber went 1-2 and were the team’s leading hitters.
On April 12th, the Ponies played Pecatonica. They were victorious over the Vikings, 18-8.
Coach Duane Garrison said, “You never know what you are going to get, today they went a combined 10x19.”
Leading hitters were Jessie Garrison who went 5-5, with five runs scored and three RBIs; Jacey Rufer, 3-4, Lindsey Pence, 2-3, and Hannah Zanow, 2-2.

Maire Smokes Competition

The Raiders track team hosted a quad on April 19th. Lakeside Lutheran, Wisconsin Heights and Poynette all participated.
In the 100-Meter Dash, Nick Smith finished in second with a time of 11.39. Coming in sixth was Dalton Fahey with a time of 11.74. Jared Schulting placed ninth with a time of 12.11.
Dalton Fahey placed second in the 200-Meter Dash, with a time of 23.96. Nick Schult placed fourth with a time of 25.50, and teammate Drew Pickett was right behind him in fifth place with a time of 25.58.

Knights Lose Close Game to Luther Prep

On April 18th, the New Glarus softball team hosted Johnson Creek. The Knights lost the game, 11-9.
The two teams were fairly evenly matched throughout the game. In the fifth inning, the Knights scored five runs, putting them ahead by three. They weren't able to keep that momentum going however, as Johnson Creek scored twice in the sixth and put three runners over home plate in the seventh inning.
Pitcher Riley Parker struck out three from the mound in seven innings. She racked up 26 first pitch strikes.

Belleville Softball Loses Close Game to Watertown

On April 16th, the Belleville softball team participated in a four-team tournament in Mineral Point.
Game one was against Mineral Point, and they lost 3-0. Coach Connie Wunschel is ok with the loss though. “They have seven seniors playing/returning from a strong team last year.”

Two Wins And State Recognition For Raiders

Playing five games in six days, the Raiders were able to showcase their determination and ability to persevere while improving their record to 8-2-1. Winning games against strong opponents was noticed by the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association, and the Raiders received Honorable Mention in state rankings.
