Dane County Farm Bureau Hosts Annual Meeting

Members of the Dane County Farm Bureau will hold their Annual Meeting on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at 7:00 p.m., at Rex’s Innkeeper in Waunakee.
All Farm Bureau members are encouraged to attend this important meeting to help create policy resolutions and vote in elections for county board directors. Also being selected will be the county’s voting delegates for the WFBF Annual Meeting in Wisconsin Dells, December 3-5.

County Supervisors Announce Plan to Increase Living Wage for Dane County

Dane County Board Supervisors have recently introduced a measure to put employees of Dane County contractors on the path to a $15.00 minimum wage.  Community advocates, labor leaders and state legislators stood with county officials in support of this new proposal.

Dane County Sheriff's Office 2016 Citizens Academy

For the 10th consecutive year, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office will offer an 11-week Citizens Academy starting September 20th. Anyone who lives or works in Dane County and is over 18 years of age can apply.

Back to School Safety

The first day of school is just around the corner! The Dane County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind motorists to exercise a heightened awareness in the early morning hours and after school when children are present. Children do not always follow the rules of the road and they may enter the street from between cars, ride their bike through a red light or into traffic. Potential hazards are much easier to perceive if you are driving at or below the posted speed limits.

Free Yoga Classes in New Glarus

Join instructor David Haugh at the New Glarus Yoga Center for a series of free yoga classes, sponsored by the New Glarus Public Library and the Community Foundation of New Glarus. 
These one-hour classes begin at 6:00 p.m., and will be held on four consecutive Mondays: September 12th, September 19th, September 26th and October 3rd.
Students of all ability levels are welcome (ages 16 and up, please).  Please bring your own yoga mat if you have one. Yoga mats are available to borrow at the yoga center, if necessary.  These classes are free and open to the public.

NGM Starts Season With a Win Over Catholic Central

On Friday evening, August 19, the New Glarus-Monticello Football Team traveled to Burlington to take on the Catholic Central Hilltoppers.  The Knights came out right away and never trailed against the state semifinalist Hilltoppers.  The Knights racked up 393 yards of offense on the evening and held the wide-open offense of Catholic Central to 41 yards in the second half.  The Knights won 41-20 over the Hilltoppers.

Silver Paddle Group Raises Money for Tactile Communication and Neurorehabilitation Laboratory

The Silver Paddles Group set off on their journey across the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) on Saturday, July 30, 2016.  The founder and local resident, Andy Elkins, was attempting to be the first person to paddle board from Crane Lake, MN, to Grand Portage, MN.  The group traveled 200 miles across 41+ lakes and did 10.13 miles of portages on the trip.

Lukszys Wins Tennis Tournaments

Ben Lukszys, 12, of New Glarus, competed in the Waunakee Junior Open on July 30th, winning the 12 & under doubles title with partner Max Dugan of Stoughton. 
Lukszys also competed in the Maple Bluff Country Club Junior Novice Open on July 23rd, where he won three matches to earn the 12 & under singles title.

Residential Revaluation to Begin in New Glarus

The Village’s Assessor, Gardiner Appraisal, has begun the revaluation process of residential properties within the Village of New Glarus.  The revaluation will be completed in June of 2017.
